What We're Sweet On: A Scent That's Perfect For Everyday Wear

Picking a perfume is almost like picking a partner: you want it to be the perfect blend of sweet, sultry, and long-lasting, without the overpowering effects.

Picking a perfume is almost like picking a partner: you want it to be the perfect blend of sweet, sultry, and long-lasting, without the overpowering effects. Kiehl's Aromatic Mist in Vanilla and Cedarwood ($75) is a match made in heaven. The scent is light and creamy with hints of musk from the cedarwood, making it an ideal mix of the masculine and feminine.

Kiehl's has somehow concocted a perfume that's detectable to the nose, but that isn't obtrusive at all. A couple of spritzes before you walk out the door are really all you need, and it's complex enough to build into a fragrance that works for a night out, too. And the bottle looks like one of those old-fashioned medicine vials — perfect for display on your vanity counter.

Kiehl's and Jeff Koons Team Up For a Blooming Good Cause

If you like having soft skin, looking at modern art, and being part of a great cause, then you'll absolutely love this news.

If you like having soft skin, looking at modern art, and being part of a great cause, then you'll absolutely love this news. Kiehl's is continuing its partnership with contemporary artist Jeff Koons with the release of its Creme de Corps Holiday collection. Inspired by the vibrant "Balloon Flower (Yellow)" sculpture from his "Celebration" series, 100 percent of the sales (up to $200,000) from the limited-edition offering will go to The Koons Family Institute, a branch of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children.

Available for 2011 are three sizes of Jeff Koons's Balloon Flower Creme de Corps ($29 to $72) and a special Jeff Koons Bottle Art ($50) bottle-topper, a scaled-down replica of the original work. "I believe that flowers are a symbol for perfect love, and an important expression for this charitable collaboration with Kiehl's," said Koons. So load up on feel-good body care for you and your loved ones his holiday season. There's something to be said about being soft on the outside and warm and fuzzy on the inside, after all.

12 Days of Holiday Beauty: A Partridge in a Pear Tree

Traditionally, the 12 Days of Christmas begin on Dec.

Traditionally, the 12 Days of Christmas begin on Dec. 25, and last until Jan. 5. That's a lot of celebrating, no? But since Christmas is just 12 days away, let's partake in a bit of preholiday revelry Bella-style. Using the classic tune "The 12 Days of Christmas" as inspiration for our anticipation, let's kick off this series off with the first day: a partridge in a pear tree:

Top off that fancy updo with Marc by Marc Jacobs Save the Birds Hairclips ($25) or the seasonally-appropriate Isn't It Pheasant Headband ($17). Get fruity (smelling) with Philosophy's Philosophy I'm Dreaming of White Pear Gel ($16) or Pre de Provence Apple Pear Soap ($7). And for a bit of glisten with a sweet finish, Love and Toast Prickly Pear Lip Balm ($17) or Kiehl's Lip Gloss in Pear Tree ($15).

Kiehl's Revs Up For a Good Cause

Maybe you knew that legendary actor Peter Fonda has a fondness for motorcycles.

Maybe you knew that legendary actor Peter Fonda has a fondness for motorcycles. (Easy Rider, anyone?) But did you know that Kiehl's owns a collection of vintage motorcycles? Yep.

It makes perfect sense, then, that the skin care company's latest limited-edition release, a motorcycle-inspired Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 ($50), will kick off with a six-day charitable bike ride. Featuring motorcycling icons like Fonda and musician Josh Homme, the 20-person group will start their engines in San Diego on Aug. 2, concluding their trip five days later in the Bay Area.

Stopping by Kiehl's stores along the way, the pack plans to donate $60,000 to benefit amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. Look for the moisturizer to rev up to Kiehl's stores in California and the New York flagship store, as well as on the Kiehl's website on Aug. 1. Even better? One hundred percent of the profits (up to $25,000) will go to amfAR.

Guess How Long It Takes the Longest-Legged Woman to Shave

Kiehl’s "Close Shaverettes" Simply Mahvelous Shave Cream ($15.50) has been around for almost 65 years.

Kiehl’s "Close Shaverettes" Simply Mahvelous Shave Cream ($15.50) has been around for almost 65 years. And this Spring, the iconic line is relaunching the popular shaving aide in pink packaging — a complete overhaul from the traditional Kiehl's black and white.

To celebrate the new look, the company is holding a truly unique (and leggy) contest. From now until March 15th, pop in to any Kiehl's location or enter online for a chance to win a year's worth of "Close Shaverettes" Simply Mahvelous Legs Shave Cream.

The catch? You have to guess how long (down to the second) it takes Svetlana Pankratova, the record-holding "Woman with the Longest Legs," to shave her 4'4" gams. There will be lots of happy people with this contest, as Kiehl's is picking one winner from each of their stores and one winner from online. The people who come closest to the exact answer will win the goods. What's your best guess?

SPF Beauty Bonanza, Part I: Facial Moisturizers

In honor of Sun Safety Week (June 8th-14th), I've decided to bring you a five-post series on beauty products that contain SPF.

In honor of Sun Safety Week (June 8th-14th), I've decided to bring you a five-post series on beauty products that contain SPF. And I'm not talking SPF 4, 6, or 8, I'm talking the big numbers to keep your looks preserved, your skin protected and your body healthy and happy. Today's topic is facial moisturizers and below are three great products that have piqued my interest. What's your favorite SPF lotion?

I haven't tried anything from Ahava except for their Purifying Dead Sea Mask and I loved it, so when I heard that they launched a line of Mineral Sun Care products I was intrigued, especially with the Anti-Aging Moisturizer with SPF 50 ($25). It claims to guard your skin from both UVA and UVB rays and it's formulated for sensitive skin.

Last Summer, Kiehl's launched the UV Protective Face and Body Sunscreens with SPF 20 ($32.50), which I love. The big news is that they've already released the same version but with SPF 50 overseas and plan to launch it in the US next year — how's that for early buzz!

The sun creams are formulated with Mexoryl technology to ensure that UVA and UVB rays are blocked from penetrating your skin. They are photostable, non-greasy, fragrance-free and sweat resistant, however, they are lightweight in texture so they won't clog your pores.

BellaSugar's Top Five Hand Cream Picks

I'm a hand cream junkie, so it is with great pleasure and conviction that I present my top five favorites to you.

I'm a hand cream junkie, so it is with great pleasure and conviction that I present my top five favorites to you. Over the past year, I've tested many a cream in search of my favorite, and I have two. The first is June Jacobs Green Tea and Cucumber Hand Cream ($46) because of its quick rate of absorbency, non-greasy feeling and soothing scent.

The second is L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream ($25) because of its rich, thick texture and unparalleled soothing results. If there's one thing I've learned from my experiences, it's that the key to a good hand cream is shea butter, and the higher the content, the better. Below are three runners-up that I use regularly to soothe dry, chapped hands. What's your all-time favorite hand cream?

  • Kiehl's Unusually Rich — But Not Greasy At All — Hand Cream with SPF 10 ($15.50) takes the cake when it comes to consistency since it's not too thick and not too runny. It's also not greasy whatsoever and it's a great sports cream since it contains SPF 10.
  • Liz Earle Hand Repair ($28.50) smells like heaven and works wonders on dry cuticles. A little goes a long way, and there's also a travel tube available for $8.
  • Yu-Be Cream ($15) is a high quality Japanese yellow-tinted hand cream that moisturizes on a healing level. I highly recommend this fast-absorbing lotion — if you can handle the strong camphor scent.
Microdermabrasion

Reader Review: Kiehl's Epidermal Retexurizing Microdermabrasion

Reader missy k is obsessed with finding a microdermabrasion treatment that will make skin, as she puts it, "as smooth as a shiny new egg."

Reader missy k is obsessed with finding a microdermabrasion treatment that will make skin, as she puts it, "as smooth as a shiny new egg." I was excited to hear about her experience with Kiehl's Re-Texturizing Microdermabrasion ($40). I'll turn it over to her for the full scoop:

Formulated with "diatomatious earth," which is apparently made from "crushed microshells derived from ocean sand," as well as aluminum oxide crystals (the stuff used by dermatologists to perform real microdermabrasion treatments). Over time, it tells me, it will reduce lines, refine texture, diminish pores, and instantly impart miraculous softness. Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard it all before.
