Last night at the American Music Awards, Kylie Jenner stole the spotlight from her older sisters Khloé Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. While fashionistas may cite Kylie's leg-baring gown as the showstopping aspect of her look, beauty girls know better: it's the fact that she rocked a dramatic lip and eye at the same time. The key to pulling it off with aplomb? Instead of going for a full-on smoky eye with that moody pout, makeup artist Rob Scheppy chose to focus on the lashes. But don't just rush out and buy a pack of falsies and a maroon lipstick! Read on for the tips you need to know before replicating the look. Source: Getty // Steve Granitz

The Eyes

The Eyes

The secret to getting Kylie's flirty, fluttery fringe was Eyeko Lash Wardrobe ($24). "They’re not individual [lashes] and they’re not in strips. They’re something in between, so you can layer them and create so many looks with them alone," said Rob. He also used Eyeko mascara in Black Magic ($24), a superdark, buildable formula. "The wand is curved so you can get into the lash line better," explained Rob. This trick is essential for pumping up a puny fringe — if you're wary of using falsies, getting extra mascara into the base of the lashes creates the illusion of volume.

The Lips

The Lips

It may come as no surprise that lip liner was pivotal to Kylie's look. Rob used MAC Cosmetics lip liner in Burgundy ($16) to line and fill in the whole lip, but eschewed gloss or lipstick afterward. "Sometimes if you put lipstick on top, it changes the color of the liner," he said. Instead, Rob used Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream ($21) to give Kylie's pout a dewy finish.
