Lancôme's Holiday Makeup Collection Is More Than Just ÔK

For this holiday, Lancôme's makeup collection, dubbed L'Absolu Rouge Soirée, features shades of red, plum, and brown. What I like most about this seasonally appropriate set is that the colors are very rich, long-lasting, and not too over-the-top holiday. In other words, you'll still be wearing these shades well beyond Jan. 1. Over the past two weeks or so, I've been wearing a few shades from the collection practically on a daily basis, and I'm impressed with just how much wear I've gotten out of this cool-toned set.

For the lips: La Laque Fever Lipshine in Untamed Plum ($26) is a medium grape shade with a bit of sparkle and just a hint of shine, perfect for a look that's trendy, but sophisticated. Plus, how can you not love the signature spatula-shaped applicator?

For the eyes: Cream-to-powder shadows can be trouble, and I'm not going to lie — the first time I used the Color Design Cream Eye Shadow in Pink Lace, Haute Smoke, and Garter Belt ($22 each) I was left with a creased mess. The problem? I waited too long to blend them in and I used my fingers to distribute the product. The solution? Once I applied the shadow with a brush and worked quickly, I was good to go. Pink Lace, the perfect icy champagne shade, is my favorite of the trio, as it created a luminous glow without a Solid Gold effect.

For the face: While the glittery coating atop of the Sparkling Cherub Sheer Warming Illuminating Powder ($40) was a bit off-putting at first, after about the second or third usage, the super-thin shimmer layer (along with the rosy-toned heart) was gone, leaving behind perfect-for-Winter warm, subtle bronzer. I only wish that the rosy tone was a permanent part of the compact, as just a touch of color gave the powder a bit of a boost.

For the finishing touch: I love playing around with colored liners, but if the shade isn't rich enough, unfortunately, it can get lost in the shuffle. The Ink Artliner in Plum Tease ($23.50), has just the right amount of depth to make the eyes stand out, particularly when paired with the Pink Lace shadow — and especially if you've got green or brown eyes.
