Latisse, the liquid that the FDA recently approved to lengthen and thicken eyelashes, has fascinated me since it hit shelves a couple months back. The before-and-afters on the website are impressive, and the fact that it has a guarantee from the government is no small feat, but I'm still leery of the whole thing. (I don't love weird chemicals, as you all know.) So I've decided to use myself as a guinea pig for the greater good of Bellas everywhere and document my experience with Latisse as accurately, and with as many photos, as possible. Join me here, in the Latisse Diaries, to see real pics of what "Latisse lashes" look like and get an unbiased take on the Latisse experience. Wish me luck, and meet me back here shortly for pics and a breakdown of my first week with Latisse.

SO IS THIS LIKE ROGAINE, WHEN YOU STOP USING IT ALL THE HAIR FALLS OUT ??
1IF SO IT'S VERY EXPENSIVE ...A FOREVER THING.
I've heard this makes the colored part of your eye turn brown. Why would ANYONE want that? Unless you already had brown eyes to begin with.
2I used Rogaine once and had unexpected hair growth a la Michael Fox in Teen Wolf! Good luck Bella!~
3Thanks for doing this! I am very curious to see what results you get. I am also curious if you got the prescription from an opthamologist, only because this stuff has chemicals that are really meant for glaucoma. I am a glaucoma suspect, meaning I have high eye pressures but no vision loss, and had to use glaucoma medication. My eyelashes did grow, but I also experienced darkening under my eyes (worse than usual!! Was applying concealer 2-3 times/day). I have brown eyes, so my irises darkening wasn't a concern for me, but I imagine if someone has light colored eyes, one might want to think long and hard before trying. BTW - my lashes are back to their original length now that I don't use the medication (had laser surgery to relieve pressures).
4I actually have glaucoma and blue eyes and have been on medication. My eyelashes are already fairly long and thick so honestly I didn't take note but my eyes did grey a little but no one but me noticed. So I am very interested how this one turns out.
5I am curious about the results, but I would never try this myself. I love the color of my eyes too much to risk permanent darkening of my irises. I know the risk is low, but it's not worth it, to me anyway!
6I have blue eyes, there's no way I'd EVER consider using this
7I cried foul when I saw Brooke Shields as the spokes person for this product...She was born with natural lashes as thick or thicker than false lashes!
8I use this, and WOW. My lashes look a-maz-ing. I didn't notice them growing really until about 4-5 weeks, as I was putting on my mascara (I've been using it since mid March now). People are constantly commenting on how long and gorgeous my lashes are!
9My eyes are really dark brown, but I would have reservations if my eyes were blue or green...
Would love to see how this turns out for ya! But the darkening of the irises thing is pretty weird?!?! I wonder what makes it do that?
10My eyes are blue and my best feature. There is no way I'd risk them changing color to have thicker eyelashes. I think some of the things people are vain about these days are so stupid.
11The risks far outweigh the benefits, in my opinion. I'm curious to know how it goes but I would never do it myself. Good luck!
12I've been using this since it came out and I have blue eyes. When I talked to my doctor, nobody's eyes in the clinical trial changed color. He was very confident that his patients don't have to worry about this.
13Anon, I know someone personally who's eyes did changed color slightly, so she stopped using it right away. I know the risk is low, but they obviously wouldn't report it if it didn't exist! If I really want long lashes, I'll just get extensions.
14I'm using this too. The eye darkening (iris) is a side effect associated with glaucoma treatment, in which you directly drop it into your eyeball. With latisse you're only brushing it onto your lash line. So you can get a little darker eyelid but that's about it.
15I work in a medspa that sells Latisse and I have been using it for 6 weeks. I have green eyes w/ no color change or darkening of the eyelids. My eyelashes are not only longer but they are thicker and darker too. I personally know people that have to trim their eyelashes b/c the grow so long.
16Once you get your the results you are looking for (12-16 weeks) you go to a maintenance program (apply 1-2x per week).
I am happy w/ this product and I am SUPER funny about chemicals, I saw so many people have success that I tried it!
I can't imagine rubbing this chemical so close to my eyeball... I'm the kind of person to wait a few years so you can hear long-term results (and horror stories). Plus you have to keep using it forever or your lashes go back to normal!
17i would never use this product. ever!
18I get seriously frustrated when I read people making comments on medications and you know that they haven't actually read the clinical trials. Grrrrrrrr....
First and foremost, bimatoprost (a.k.a., Latisse) has been clinically trialed by Allergan and by individual doctors in their practices who were closely monitoring their patients. NO documented cases of iris color change have been reported BY PATIENTS USING LATISSE AS PRESCRIBED. The only instances in which pigment changes have been reported (to date) are by patients using this as an eye drop for glaucoma treatment - and the percentage of cases where this has happened in glaucoma patients is such a minute number that it carries a very small risk even within that large group. When using Latisse for lash growth, you are NOT putting this in your eye, and if some were to accidentally seep into your eye that the risk of iris color change is so minimal that it isn't even worth mentioning. Of course, if you decided to apply the Latisse as an eye drop into your eye for an extended period of time (say, the next few years), then you *might* be at risk for some pigment changes - but you would also be using this in a manner NOT prescribed for lash growth. I did extensive research on this before I decided to use Latisse (it IS a medication, we are talking about my eyes, and I'm not one to make uninformed decisions). After all of the reading, and a thorough consultation with a medical professional, I can't see why anyone would be so paranoid about this drug. It has been successfully used to treat glaucoma with minimal to no side effects, and the application for lash growth is minimally invasive to the eye itself (if at all), and poses virtually no side effects.
I'm a blonde haired, fair skinned, light green eyed woman with very light lashes. I've been using Latisse for two months with absolutely no side effects. My eyes have not changed color. I haven't had any eyelid skin darkening. The only thing I have had is longer, darker, thicker lashes. It takes two seconds to apply before I go to bed. People keep telling me that I look younger. I love this, and am willing to bet that we see it available over the counter at some point in the future.
Do your own research before you buy into the negative hype and paranoia that some people are spewing about Latisse. I'd hate for you to miss out on gorgeous lashes for fear of side effects that have not been a factor for those using this as directed. It's good stuff. Seriously. Good. Stuff.
19Too bad for the person who grrrs at negative side effects. I used Latisse, as directed, meaning I did not put it in my eyes. My eyes changed from blue green to dark hazel and are now becoming brown. After a very short period of time I stopped using it and my eyes darkened for months after discontinuation. This product does change eyes to brown and I don't care what the clinical trials say. There is dollar signs behind the information disclosed so really listen to people who have experienced this. Also, you may not notice a darkening for up to one year because it is a gradual change. In my case it was very aggressive. I don't write comments to waste time. I wish someone would have wrote about this on a blog when I was researching so that I may have avoided this incident entirely. The truth is that it DOES HAPPEN and I have brown eyes to prove it! Be careful what you wish for!
20Seriously, do not take that woman's advice who grrrrs at people who try to help others by warning them of potential side effects. Everyone is different and some may have eye color change while others do not. Why would drug companies want to expose horrible side effects when they are trying to mass sell a product? Also, my hair dresser told me that a few of his clients had eye color change as well. It's happening in my town so multiply that by thousands.
21Bellasugar, if it is possible could you email me. I go bald (eyelashes) at least three times a year and doctors are still unsure why. Today the eye doctor suggested I use the Latisse. I'd love to know more about it and your thoughts and results. Thank you.
22Just another update on my eye issues due to Latisse. Firstly, my eyes did change color rapidly. Coincidentally, I have eye allergies for the first time in my entire life. I have dramatic red veins that are showing up in my sclera and now feel the burning and itching sensation from allergies. I also am having issues with dry eyes. It is important to state that I only used this product for five days and I have been dealing with these consequences for the past 6 months!! I never worried about allergy season before and now I suddenly have issues. This is a very high price to pay for pretty eyelashes. I hope that I help someone before they have to endure what I am experiencing!
23Anonymous (the one with all the statistics from the Latisse studies): For all your onanistic statistic-spouting, you are sadly still lacking in simple logic; if Latisse's active ingredient's eyelash-lengthening properties were first noticed when people instilled the substance directly into their eyes, then isn't it clear that it does indeed transfer through the skin of the eyelid to unintended places? There haven't been any instances of iris pigmentation changes in the clinical studies because with the lower dose of the active ingredient, the chance is too minimal to be noticed in Latisse's relatively small sample group. This, however, does not mean that there is not a very real chance of the odd woman having her beautiful light eyes permanently darkened. Research is unfortunately limited by the comprehension of the researcher, my dear.
24"I'd hate for you to miss out on gorgeous lashes for fear of side effects..." - I'm pretty vain myself...but damn!
