Since the launch of Lipstick Queen in 2006, its founder, Poppy King (picture above), has made lipstick fun, modern, and downright sexy, and she's bringing back that magic with a new range of luxurious and inspired bullets. The Velvet Rope collection will include five lipsticks encased in retro gold tubes and blue velvet packaging, which is all a nod to the Hollywood glamour of the '40s. "It was a time when women were an equal presence on screen, and were there to be seen as well as heard," King told WWD. "Each one of the female film stars in the Forties could match any man in terms of power and wit and look damn good doing it."
The colors include Private Party, Brat Pack, Entourage, Black Tie, and Star System, which range from a demure nude to an iconic red. In addition to the decadent packaging, the innovative new formula features silicone elastomer, which gives the product highly pigmented color without a heavy, cakey finish. "Because of [the silicone and elastomer base], you are able to achieve full coverage in a single stroke that usually requires at least three strokes," King said. Each will sell for $50, and you'll be able to swipe on some of that panache for yourself when the Velvet Rope collection hits Space NK and Barneys this September.
