Love It or Hate It? Monroe Piercing

If you weren't born with a beauty mark, there's a new way to fake one. A growing trend in piercing is the Monroe (named after Marilyn), which places a small stud to one side of the upper lip. What do you think?

I got my monroe done in highschool and took it out for 2 years because I wanted to get a good job after University. I noticed that I got so many comments on the hole where the stud used to be that I couldn't take it anymore, my face was ruined by this hole so recently I sucked it up and put a stud back in it. It's a little diamond stud, and even in University I have gotten so many compliments on it. I've been told by educated people that it looks classy and gives me an "edge" which alot of people like. I don't really like the comments I am hearing about how it looks "trashy, you will never get a decent career." I am going into Lawschool after I finish my bachelor of arts, I can always take the stud out at work, but overall, the girl wears the piercing, the piercing doesn't wear the girl. Alot of people say it depends on "your face." Basically if you are already an attractive person, the piercing isn't going to change that. People notice my piercing and love it, and I love it as well.

Love them :) I got mine about a year ago and haven't regretted it once. Plus I've been told three times it suits me, so I'm convinced. I have a nose piercing too, but I wear a hoop with that since my monroe and nose piercings are on the same side of my face. With a stud, it looks like I have two bullet holes on my face or something.. not pretty. I think the big silver labrets are too overwhelming and trashy, but the diamond ones are cute. Not suitable for everyone, but definitely compliments the looks for some people

i love them! its almost been a year that i have mine on..i like the diamond studs alot but i feel more comfortable not being a shiny face on a day to day basis and hence use a small silver ball.. lemme know what you guys think of mine! http://yfrog.com/1gaaaxij

The first time I saw one of these was in...2003 maybe? I was in high school and some girl had a monroe. I kept staring at her because it looked like she had a giant, ugly mole or something on her face. I was finally about 6 inches away from her when I realized it was a piercing. Definately not my favourite type of piercing.

i love it! i just got mine done and I'm not "punk" or anything that u want to call it. i just like it. and it doesn't hurt to get it done. everyone that i have come in contact with so far likes it so...its a yes from me.

I've had mine done for over two years now. I've always liked it. And, personally, I think the word "trashy" is trashy. Stop judging others. Do want you want.

there are certain people that it looks good on imo, but this pic does not do it justice. I for one would not get one but I have seen certain females, who are atractive and classy with them

It's loveable and great and beautiful. I love itt. But a big stud prolly doesn't look all that great with all that make-up. But I love your decision. I WANT ONE!

precious pets, I think she meant the phraze "common" as in Classless types that can be found easily or like the phraze "common prostitute". She has probably only seen "trashy" girls wear it, so she asociates it with that.

those peircings..idk...they look pretty ugly on some ppl..it just doesnt fit them at all..and those ppl like if im talking 2 them, i cant help but stare at it, and think in my head..god tats soo ugly..and idk reminds me of a silver mole. :P and then i think it must of hurted and idk..i start 2 think about the peircing and yea. :P its also a big distraction 2 me, if im talkin 2 them. :P but some ppl can pull it off and it looks good on them. :)

I've always thought any face piercing were kinda gross... and belly button piercings should be SEEN only on younger girls with great abs... I've know a few women in their 30's, who in no way should showing their guts to begin with, who have gotten them... and it's just nasty...In response to swwonder: What does "only the common girls at school" mean? Are you royalty? 'cause commoners means people other than royals (as in the UK). I don't agree that only trashy and cheap girls would have them. Everyone is entitled to their own styles and opinions in the USA, which is what makes us the great country we are. Even if I don't like something and someone else does, it doesn't mean they are "common" and I am better than them -- and it doesn't mean you are eitherI think it's seriously wrong for a young girl to have a tongue pierced, esp. since they are significantly used for oral sex, not fashion -- but doesn't mean anyone else is better than them (but their parents may issues)

with all due respect i think facial piercings seem really outdated. hate it. that said some people suit these sort of piercings and some just don't. i know i could never pull it off.
