If you haven't tried tube mascaras yet, you'll be glad to know that drugstore versions are rolling out. One of the first is L'Oréal Double Extend Lash Extension Effect Mascara ($9.79), a two-step mascara with "beauty tube technology."
Tube mascaras are great for making lashes look longer, and because the formulas come off with warm water, they're much easier to remove. I'm a fan of Mirenesse Secret Weapon, but will L'Oréal's version perform as well? For the verdict (with pictures), read more.
Voila, my naked peeper.
The first step is to apply a "nourishing base coat." It went on with a few clumps and looked like lash lice. Fortunately, it's just a temporary look. Moving on...
The second step involves the "ultra-lengthening tube top coat," which adds length and color. Don't know if I'd say it's "ultra-lengthening," but it's not bad. However, it's not as good as Lash Blast from Cover Girl, which lengthens and volumizes for less money and one fewer step.
Overall, this isn't a bad mascara — but it's not a great one, either. Pick it up if there's a two-for-one deal, but otherwise, don't make a special trip.

I tried this too and thought the exact same thing.
1I didnt like it like my good ole Maybelline Great Lash
Not paying cosmetic companies to torture rabbits is much sexier than any drugstore mascara.
2Yeah, I think I'll skip this one and stick to Lash Blast.
3Too bad it doesn't work really great, I think its the prettish mascara tube I have seen in a long while.
4I haven't had great luck with the 2-step mascaras. Maybelline XXL is a little bit better than this one, but still very fussy. I tend to get my hopes up when I see aaallll those thick, long, white lashes coated with primer, but then it takes so long to cover them with the black and the final result just isn't worth it.
I like mascaras that contain lengthening fibers much better. Maybelline Unstoppable is a good, cheap, drugstore one - it lengthens and thickens quite a lot, but it does tend to flake a little bit after wearing it all day.
5foxie, do you have a recommendation for mascara that hasn't been animal tested? thanks!
6lawchick, peta keeps a list of who has promised not to test on animals:

and the bad guys:

bella, i'm SO jealous of your brows!
7No prob, I check on caringconsumer-dot-com before I buy cosmetics. Off the top of my head I know that Clinique, Smashbox, Kat von D, and Bare Escentuals don't test on animals, just to name a few. Your options certainly aren't limited. =)
8thanks weffie and foxie!
9wow there are too many companies on that DO test list!
10thanks for posting this ladies... i'll be remembering this during any future purchases... altho typically i try and purchase cruelty free and organic these days... it's still good to have a resource.
Thanks Bella, i love this type of mascaras
11i was going to buy this but after your review
maybe another thing, it doesn't promise
a lot.
No thanks L'Oreal. I like to sleep at night.
12I like Maybelline Define-A-Lash, the best ever.
13I'm glad MAC and Hard Candy made the DO NOT TEST ON ANIMALS list
14nah dont like the effect.
15I like the one I use now-Cover Girl Professional water proof.
16Great review -- I used to love those double-step mascaras but then when Rimmel came out with the Magnifeyes it was amazing for giving me length, volume, and most importantly for me curl that lasts. Then I got hit with a sample of the new Chanel Exceptionnel and have to switch to high end again because its so amazing! (Hate hate hate using high-end mascaras since you have to toss them so frequently, seems such a waste!)
17I hate those "tube" mascaras...the lashes look clumpy if you overdo it. And I don't think they're the best for contact lens-wearers like myself.
18i love Bad Gal from Benefit! and now they have new colors !
19I hate all two-step mascaras, no matter what brand, because they always leave my lashes all caky - I'm usually loyal to AVON, since they're great mascaras and there are so many various types, but recently I've been using the CoverGirl Lash Blast, which I am loving(especially the bright orange tube)...
20I just bought this, and although I like the effect fine, I can't get over the gross weirdness that goes on when I REMOVE it! I use regular, oil-free eye make up remover on a cotton pad, and pressed the soaked pad on my eyes for 30 seconds before wiping (as recommended on the packaging)...
...and I end up with all these tiny black sqiggly flecks everywhere! What's up with THAT? The mascara comes off in single, elastic bits, and it was hard to get them all off! I ended up pulling on my lashes with my fingertips to get them all off!
I'll try removing it with warm water tonight, maybe it was the remover... but still, somehow not really worth the weirdness, and I mad stick to my Maybelline GreatLash after all!
21SteffiMaus, you're SUPPOSED to use your fingertips. The squiggly lines you see are the TUBES that wrap around your lashes. Your remover is only for other mascaras, but mascaras with TUBE technology only need warm water.
22there is no difference in her lashes. they look like she has no mascara on afterwards.thnaks for the info on not wasting my money
23This stuff is definately not worth the hype. I use it am not impressed, my lashes look like they are going to be great when you put the white base coat on but then end up all clumpy when you apply the mascara. I do like the fact that it does NOT smudge or flake until you are ready to take it off with warm water. I have even slept in it and awoke with not a single smudge
24I tried and I love it...it works great for lenth, I really like, no complaints
25I really like this mascara and used to do lash extentions, at $50.00 every 3 weeks, so my pocket book took a break and bought double lash, one of the girls at work asked me where I got my eyelash extensions and I was sold. The fibers do break up when you remove because they are the extension part of the mascara, but it looks great when you are wearing it.
26I don't really care for this...I don't mind the gross cleanup, or even the fact that it dries my lashes out terribly even after the "conditioning" white basecoat. I just don't like the results...yes, my lashes are longer, but the mascara that is coating them appears dry, flaky, and without a hint of shine...unhealthy looking=unattractive...if they made the formula glossier, I'd be all over it. For now, though, I am in love with Clinique's Lash Power...does nothing for volume, but makes my lashes miles long and shiny, with no flaking. Also, b/c it was made for the tropics, it stays on like a champ through my sweaty mile+ walks in the heat of Missouri summers...and I have oily eyelids. A gem, indeed.
