If you've ever read more than an issue or two of a beauty magazine, you know that Mason Pearson is considered the holy grail of hair brushes. The English brand has been making brushes since 1885, and it continues to produce them by hand to this day. Their nylon and boar bristles are supposed to evenly distribute sebum from the scalp, making hair shiny and stronger.
The only catch? Well, this brush costs $170. And that, my friends, is why there is no Mason Pearson brush in my life. I'm so-so on a less expensive but still-luxurious Fekkai brush, but still, I can't stop wondering if this one would make me have shampoo-commercial hair. (For that kind of money, it'd better!) So, you tell me—do you think this brush could be worth its high price tag?

Gorgeous
A $170 brush won't make you any less fug.
I have 4 MP Brushes and 1 comb. If you find the right one, it is definitely worth it. It does not only straighten out your do, but also massages your scalp and distribute the oils in your hair. Love the Universal for my thick sometimes dandruff head. Although I have found some brushes that compare, nothing will ever surpass these brushes. Except for my Bio-ionic round brush. Which are expensive also.
Uhhhh no
Okay, the MP combs are way overrated. Don't waste your money on those.
I'm not using one and my hair seems to be doing just fine without it.
Buy one, you will probably get addicted. You can find these brushes way cheaper than retail online. Try Tressence.com
I get the lookalike brushes sold at Ulta, I'm not sure what the brand is...but they're high quality and work to remove sebum. Once seasoned (but clean!) they're jewels I go back to on a daily basis to freshen my hairstyle midway through my workday.
No way! That's ridiculous... I think my current brush cost something like $7, and my hair is fine! Besides, at my house there's a disturbing tendency for brushes to go missing quite frequently - I'm not paying $170 for something that won't be around for very long!
I have naturally curly hair so there's no way I'd spend that on a product I'd use about once or twice a week (I wear it curly most every day, just brush it out occasionally instead of using detangler combs).
I have had my MP brush for over ten years and it works super-well. It's absolutely worth shelling out for.
I can't say since I've never tried one...
I don't see myself spending that kind of $$ on a hairbrush ever though.
i've had one forever, and i'm really protective of it. it was a gift so i didn't know the cost for a long time. i don't think it's quite worth the money, but it's an amazing tool for your hair and does great work.
I used to have one but I lost it- my hair didn't seem to know the difference. If you can afford one, sure, why not- but if it's a really big splurge, don't bother. There are a lot of comparable hair brushes out there for a lot, lot less.
I would love to find out, but, there is no way I would spend that much. I know Mindy Kaling from The Office raves and raves about this brush.
I purchased one when I was going through In-vitro fertilization. The Medications caused me to lose hair. I have dry naturally curly hair and that brush saved my hair. I love that it has a cleaning brush in the box too! And by the way, it has lasted me 4 years so far and still looks brand new!
I dont think I would spend that much on a brush, but I suppose if I was rich I might think differantly.
Hmm....I don't really brush my hair often enough to make this brush worth the money. Maybe for some...but not for me
I don't know actually. I'd have to try it first. But I do believe that you do get what you pay for. But for now I'm sticking to my wide tooth comb for my long hair.
I'm all about taking care of your hair.. but I dunno about spending over $100 on a brush.
I'd have to try it first, but I doubt I'd think it's worth the money. If it gave me Pantene-commercial hair, maybe. I have coarse, slightly wavy hair and boar bristle brushes make my hair frizzy(er).
i got one of these, boar bristle-nylon mix, recommended for curly hair. it was horrible. it was supposed to keep the curl but soften it, but it literally turned my super-curly hair into pure frizz as i pulled it through my hair. it was a giant waste of money.
I have never tried them but I definitely wouldn't spend that kind of money on a brush.
Erm... how about no? I'm sure they're very good brushes and congrats for the people who can afford them, but unless they're going to brush my hair for me, it's a no
i bought the "popular" style of the mason pearson brush, and while it is nice, i don't think i'ts that much better that brushes that are around $20. i feel like i have to be TOO careful with it cuz it costs so much.
No thanks. I can't ever see the justification in buying a $170 hairbrush. My $10 one works just fine.
I know it sounds ridic, but I love my MP Junior. It was $127 which is stupid, but really works to straighten my wavy/curly hair w/o a round brush.
If I had the money I might consider buying one, but I do have a hard time believing that they are really worth the price. I have two boar bristle brushes that seem to work well for the meantime.
Oh please ***** it's just a brush for goodness sakes. Give me a break with this one.
$170 for a brush? Unless it has gold in it... not worth it.
I've had my MP brush for many year- love it! Would buy again if it broke.
I say no because you are not supposed to brush your hair very often anyway. It gives you split ends.
no way
i have normal straight hair, and normal cheap combs will do. i hardly need to style my hair.
i think good shampoo and treatments are more important.
$170 for a stupid brush? i don't think so.
HAHAHA! If I ever spend that amount of money on a hairbrush just smack my face and pull me back down to Earth. Ridiculous!
I would, however, love to sell idiots a $170 brush.
Umno.
I don't think I even know where my brush is. I think I paid three or four dollars for it.
I've got naturally curly hair, so brushing is a nono. I comb out the tangles when my hair is soaking wet and I don't touch it until it's dry. I have something called a beach comb. BEST THING FOR CURLY HAIR PEOPLE. It's a huuuuuuuuuge wide tooth comb. Mine is longer than my hand and I think it has ten prongs on it. I
Lots of opinions here! I'm as indecisive as ever. Considering the price, I doubt I'll ever own one... unless somebody is very generous with gifts. Hee!
i'M SURE it's worth the money but..................
Wowza, not paying that much for a bloody brush!
I have a very nice brush from Aveda that I adore, and I think it was about $30.00.
For that price, that brush better blow dry my hair, color my roots and tell me I'm beautiful everyday.
i got an MP brush for christmas and, while i'd never shell out that much for one on my own, i treasure the one i have. it makes me feel so luxurious in the mornings!
I have 3! Only get them if you have extra money to spend. Definitly not worth it if you are living paycheck to paycheck.
Id rather not put my hair brush in the safe with all my other valuables.... or chance my puppy toying with it!
I got mine as a gift and it is honestly the best thing I ever did for my hair. I probably wouldn't have bought one myself, but its hard to imagine how I passed by before.
I'm not really sure. On one hand, it's just a brush, but on the other hand, there's got to be a reason for the popularity.
Reminds me of Blades of Glory
I have long natural curly hair... and my favorite brush... is the one by Paul Mitchell. That hair-brush is a god-send.
I have been using them since high school. They have gotten a little harder to find in recent years... but they were designed for girls wanting to maintaining their long hair. They don't pull and tear the hair and they are fantastic to use when blowing drying.
The worst possible brush for any hair... is the classic "vent" brush. Their horrible uneven bristles is what gives you split ends. One does not get split ends from over brushing their hair. You get them from cheap brushes.
It is a ridiculous price, but I have had mine for almost 15 years and it still makes my hair look great! Plus, my dog even chewed off the top and it still beats most other brushes!
I have one, I have had it since I was maybe 3. That's over 20ish years. Trust me it lasts.
