Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure (usually done in medspas or at a dermatologist's office) that improves skin's appearance by buffing away the dead outermost layer. It's an effective way to combat sun damage, light acne scars, fine lines and generally dull skin.

The procedure is usually performed using a microdermabrasion wand that shoots tiny crystal particles (usually aluminum oxide, sodium chloride or sodium bicarbonate) onto skin while simultaneously vacuuming up the dead skin that's uncovered. Microdermabrasion is painless, though it may feel "prickly" in more intense treatments. The cost varies depending on where you live, but on average, a microdermabrasion session costs $75–$200.
