Natural deodorants are great in theory, but sometimes just so-so in practice. (Tom's of Maine, I'm sorry, but you may want to rename your version Stanky Pits.) I'm always on the lookout for a natural deodorant that smells fresh and clean, and Lavanila the Healing Deodorant ($18) does the trick.
This all-natural deodorant has no parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, phthlates, or synthetic dyes. Instead, it uses lichen and tea tree oils to keep the funk at bay. I like the vanilla-lavender scent, which is strong enough to cover any BO without being overpowering. Because it's deodorant and not antiperspirant, you'll still sweat; this doesn't bother me, but if you have to stay completely dry, you might want to take a pass. However, if you like your green deodorant more luxurious than jam-band groupie, this is worth the splurge.

while im all for using natural/green things, i prefer the deo+antiperspirant in my deo. while i hardly ever sweat, it still comforting to know if i ever was, id be set in that dept. and i love my dove go fresh stick.
1I've never had an anti-perspirant that worked anyway, and I don't mind the sweat that much - will have to try that one!
2um $18 for a stick of deodorant is ridiculous.
3i'll stick to my burt's bees
4I'm going to be ordering a stick of this next week! But I'll probably alternate it with my regular antiperspirant. I do like the idea of not having aluminum in my deodorant though!
5i didnt know how bad my pits stank until i used tom's of main haha thank god SOMETHING out there works!
6Tom's of Maine gave me such a bad rash on my underarms when I tried it!! Horrible, horrible stuff.
7the packaging is adorable
8i really want to try this becuase of the awesome reviews it has on sephora.com but im a little nervous it wont actually keep me smelling fresh
9I also tried Tom's deo, but it gave me a horrible under-arm rash as well! I thought it was just me because my husband's pits are fine.
10oh wow $18 for deodorant. it sounds interesting, but that's a lot of money to throw down for something that might not work for me
11I love toms of maine, but ONLY in the lemongrass scent. the others either give me a rash or dont work at all. yeah, but Im not gonna pay 18 bucks for deodorant
1218 bucks can put a fair amount of gas in my car... I'll pass on the Deo for the BO.
13**I'll pass on this...
14I almost bought this the other day at Sephora! Went with one of their roll on perfumes instead but I really want to try this. I agree about Tom's of Maine, too. Kiss My Face deoderant works pretty well for a natural one.
15For a cheaper price (like, $5 or 6) I will buy Crystal Rock Roll-On Deodorant; still natural however not as "frilly" with packaging and scents.
16I don't find $18 a lot for a deo, I can have one for months. Rather save money on make-up.
17My Lush deodorant will last me a year with everyday use.
$18 is a bit much for deodorant. And I agree Tom's does not work!
18Tom's sure doesn't work for me either. I reallylike Jason Tea Tree deodorant. Only $4 or $5.
19So weird that you all got rashes from Tom's -- I did too!! And I don't get rashes from ANYTHING!!!
Alba and Kiss My Face make great natural deodorants!
20I like my deodorant chemical and as strong as possible sorry. I don't even like my pits to think about sweating.
21I'm going to try this. $18 is expensive, but at least Sephora has a good return policy so I can return it if it doesn't work.
22i'll have to try this. i tried to crystal rock thing a few times....not for me! i never knew that i could smell like a wet and sweaty little boy.
23Yeah, $18 is indeed pricey, but deodorant lasts for a long time, so I think it's a decent investment if using a natural deo is important to you. I've tried the crystal, too, and it wasn't for me.
Interesting that there's so much Tom's of Maine haterade here. I love the idea of ToM so much, but I haven't had much luck with its products. The deodorant is seriously slimy and it actually made me smell worse somehow. Like it brought out all of the stink of my sweat.
Not that I sweat.
24$18 is a bit pricey for me but if it works and you're big into being eco friendly go for it. I'll stick to my Dove.
25I was so going to order this but when I went to, it was on backorder. Now I am over it and will stick with Degree
26Agreed on the Tom's of Maine. I tried the apricot scent and not only did I get the horrible itching rash, but my underarm skin started to ooze that clear pus-like stuff that is in blisters! Terrible, terrible product.
27i just bought the vanilla coconut. I cant wait to try it out. The girls at sephora said they were all given one and they really liked it. The only thing I recommend is actually going into the store to purchase this. Only because the deodorant scents differ greatly to the original scents. I was originally going to purchase the plain vanilla but it smelled kind of soapy to me not like the vanilla fragrance they sell. Cant wait to share my thoughts on this.
28Interesting.... Tom's of Maine is the only natural deo that seems to work for me. All the other ones mentioned here still leave me stinky. I may try Lavanila next, though.
29I agree that Tom's of Maine is noooo good. I've been using Aubrey for a few years and it works pretty well here in humid Houston. I got really excited about this LaVanila product, even with the high price tag, but I don't love the ingredients. Saccharomyces ferment can cause topical fungal infections...the idea of that is enough to put me off.
