GeoGirl, the forthcoming Walmart makeup line aimed at tweens, continues to cause a stir. Although some corners of the Web have been outraged by GeoGirl, this news clip instead focuses on two Oklahoma moms who aren't crazy about their daughters wearing makeup. "At this age," one says, "They just need to learn that they can be accepted for who they are, not how pretty they can make themselves be." Do you agree?

I think mothers don't realize that their daughters have more peer pressure than they did when they where that age, Times have changed alot and there are more girls being pressured to grow up to fast, all that being said I don't think any girl should wear makeup before 13. And just because the makeup line is aimed at 8-12 does not mean thats the only age range allowed to buy it! I am 14 and own 3 products from this line and really like them.

my 10 year old wants to wear it because her older sister talks about it. my 12 year old wants to wear it because her friends wear it. and her friends, who all look younger than 10, look silly with their makeup on. my 12 year old agrees they don't look good, but for some reason wants the makeup. i let my 12 year old get her brows waxed. but this is more because she got 12 stiches in her in her right brow when she was 4, and so the one needs some special tending to .... but it works when i say "none of your friends have their brows waxed now, DO THEY??" at 12 these little girls all look so perfect w/o makeup. wish my skin looked like theirs.

i actually think this brand is a good idea and is age appropriate. but the choice is up to the parents . 8 i feel is young but i don't think that 8 year old really wanna year a lot of make up just the tasty and shinny lip gloss. this brand has a good image and did you see the mom in the video did u see her face it had make up and shes gorgeouse

I was bad I know haha. He found my stash but I just said my mom bought me some (my parents are divorced) and he was mad but he let it slide when he actually saw what I had. I mostly had sheer lipglosses and brownish eyeshadows so he wasn't too upset. He did get upset when I discovered black liquid eyeliner at 14 and wore a mod (I was obsessed with the 60s and still kind of am) cat eye everyday though :X.

Anon 3, I thought it was interesting that the mother who wore more makeup had the girl who wasn't interested in it. (And her daughter may have talked more, but that footage may have been cut.) My mom wore makeup when I was growing up, but I honestly had no interest in it until 7th or 8th grade. I think this is because she emphasized school, sports, and creativity over looks. So I don't know, I don't think it's about whether a mother wears makeup; it's more about the messages that she delivers to her daughter. I mean, the other mom wore barely any makeup but her little girl was obsessed with lipstick. I don't think makeup is the devil (obviously) but I see no reason for girls to wear it. When they're older, sure, if they want. Kohina, you're such a bad seed! ;) You're not the only one, though. It's so interesting to see how some girls are just DYING to wear makeup, and they'll stop at nothing to do it. Did your dad ever find out about your criminal past?

I remember desperately wanting makeup when I was 12 and my dad (who solely raised me) wasn't having it. He didn't let me wear anything above lip smackers. So I went to a beauty store noticed they didn't have cameras and stole enough makeup to last me through middle school (and possibly longer lol). I used to put it on on the bus so he wouldn't see. I'm not bragging but it's just an example of what young kids will do when they have their mind set on something. Anyways, anyone not in middle school is too young but I don't see anything wrong with buying lipgloss, tinted balms or a really sheer and light neutral eyeshadow or something if the kid really wants to try it and experiment. Cause they're gonna find a way to wear it if they really really want to.

(note: I'm not intending to be bitchy with this comment - just observing a little ironic fact) "They just need to learn that they can be accepted for who they are, not how pretty they can make themselves be." Did you notice that the mother who said this was fully made up....she spoke FOR her daughter about being to young for makeup - the girl whose mother didn't have a face full of makeup was the one who spoke for herself!. Young girls begin to learn their perceptions of beauty, and begin to judge themselves, on the criteria they learn from their mothers. Is it any wonder with so many women out there who make a big deal about "putting on their face" before going anywhere, or who are super critical of themselves, have children who are pushing for cosmetics, surgeries, and inappropriate clothing for thier age?

My mom took me to the Clinique counter, too, but I think I was 14. At the age of 10, I had no interest in wearing makeup. I'm curious -- what do you think drives your daughters? Is it a fun thing, or are other girls in their school wearing makeup?

my 10 and 12 year old are begging to wear makeup. lip gloss only at this age (imho). and no offense, but when they start wearing makeup, it won't come from walmart. i'll take them the the clinique counter or something similar.
