Open Wide! Contact Lenses Get the Anime Treatment

Even if you went to Comic Con and have a lifetime obsession with J-Pop, you'll probably still do a double-take at these contact lenses.

These "extra-wide" versions mimic the large-eyed look of anime heroines such as Sailor Moon, and they're becoming a trend in parts of Asia. A Korean company, DueBa, manufactures many of them, which sell for about $50 per pair.

Is offering a temporary, non-invasive way to achieve an unrealistic beauty ideal a good thing or a bad thing? Tell me what you think in the comments.

I don't see the problum here, what about conventions? Yoyu know, the anime conventions. Everyone has diffrent styles and tastes I don't think it's right to bash them. I personally find that it makes the character come alive. That's usually what people want to achieve. I doubt people walk around on a daily basis with these. Just for anime conventions or special occasions. It's beautiful.

From what I've heard, Acuvue has a line of circle lenses but looks very unnatural and it's not well made. Also, there are companies that make these contacts for people with astigmatism like G&G. Reputable and trustworthy companies would be Korean companies such as G&G, DueBa and Geo among a few others. There are a couple sites that people seem to agree that the quality of the contacts are satisfactory, but if I'm not able to see the effect they have on my eyes for myself, I'd rather not just throw away my money like that. A lot of people said that they would prefer this over cosmetic surgery, but I don't see why. Wearing any type of contacts is damaging to your eyes. What's a few hundred, or thousand, dollars for cosmetic surgery when with contacts you run the risk losing your vision permenantly unless you get a corneal transplant? In regards to the picture... It's a bad picture. This girl either has really big eyes, or is using double eyelid glue. It looks like the latter though. With most people, circle lenses won't make your eyes look this freakish. Unless you have eyes like the girl in the picture or ridiculously narrow and small eyes. It's not so much an anime treatment unless you get the anime-styled circle lenses.

There is a hereditary disease that makes people have eyes like that, the CAPTAIN of Captain and Tineal, (ok I can't spell her name) wore sunglasses to hide his. I think it is a great look, and maybe it will help those who used to be ashamed, feel better. I think it's cute and a girl and a mysterious look on a guy, better than those vampire eyes!

Why not? We already have fake hair, bust enhancing bras, fake nails, lip-plumping gloss, fake tans, high heels to make our calves look nicer, and a whole industry of slimming underwear...if we're obsessed with modifying everything else about our bodies, than why is this so freakish and odd?

I'd try these for sure. However, since I've never had a need for contacts, when I tried out colored lenses for fun, I couldn't handle them and spent the night blinking and wiping tears from my eyes.

I like them and would be willing to try them. However, even with cosmetic contact lenses, you should always have your eye doctor fit them. It is very unsafe to buy contact lenses, even non-prescription ones, without seeing an eye doctor.If these are available in the U.S. and for light eyes, though, I want some. (I looked up the Acuvue ones they seem to be just for dark eyes. Does anyone know if that is the case?)

I would like those. I'm already a bit doll-like as I'm small plus I think they aren't that freaky anyway. People might probably look twice but that's all.

Interesting... I guess it's better that this is a non-invasive (or at least, non-surgical) method of meeting these beauty standards than invasive/surgical.
