How I Made My Winter Scalp Issues Come to an End

While I love my large, over-the-top Afro, lurking underneath all those kinks and coils is a dry, itchy scalp. And right now, the snowy Winter weather in NYC is flaring up unsavory flakes (in addition to making my well-defined curls into a puffy mess). Typically I do a hot oil treatment before every wash, using coconut oil, but now I have found another treatment to add to the pre-'poo rotation, Philip Kingsley Stimulating Scalp Mask ($9). This cream had my approval from the very beginning because it cools on contact and smells like Listerine (due to the menthol, camphor, and peppermint). Plus, it comes in a small tube, which is easy to apply at the roots. But beyond that, this soothing scalp tonic has zinc to help reduce excess oil, vitamin E to strengthen strands, and magnesium, which helps stimulate hair growth. After each use, my scalp feels like it's undergone an expensive spa treatment. But to be honest, it was the tingling that got me!
