Do You Like It When Men Color Their Hair?

With those icy blue eyes and angular features, Nicolas Cage is a good-looking man. In fact, ever since I saw him in Moonstruck back in the '80s, I've had a tiny crush on him, longing for him to take me to the opera. (We'll overlook some of his lesser flicks, like Con Air.) While we're used to seeing him with short, dark hair, he debuted this uncharacteristically longer, bleached-out style at WonderCon this weekend.

Many women color their hair, but men generally seem more resistant to doing so. (When's the last time you saw a guy in a colorist's chair?) Of course, some dudes can't resist the lure of making a change, but it seems like relatively few men take risks with their hair color. Whether on a star like Nic or a gent in your life, what's your take on guys who dye?

It definitely depends on the guy. Some people can pull it off if it looks natural. One of my guy friends, who's a musician and in a band, manages to pull off some purple streaks in his (dark brown) hair. When he told me that he was doing it, I thought that he was crazy, but was surprised to see that it kind of looks really good. It definitely suits his personality and style. But, yeah, that's a horrifically awful picture of Nic. I know that the Coppolas aren't known for being the most beautiful family ever (they actually have, you know, talent), but he's a lot better looking than that photo gives him credit for.

Perhaps this seems incongruous...but the tools are not inherently good or bad..it is really the intent that seems decent or just a tad disingenuous. I tend to want to celebrate each person to choose for himself/herself...if one's hair looks bad...just does not work, and he or she really cares what other people say...he or she will probably follow what their "audience" says. Personally, I happen to know one man who is over 40, single and very egocentric, who has recently started dying his hair...and I would swear he has had a facelift. I find his choices just another manifestation of narcissism...and hard to stomach...whereas I know some other really nice guys who dabble out premature grey...and find that inoffensive. Chacun a son gout. (to each his own)

It definitely depends. Although, I told my boyfriend he will eventually be dying his hair because he inherited a gene from his family where they all get gray hair really young. He's already got gray growing in, and he's only 22. I told him I didn't want it to look like I was dating an old man, haha. He agreed to dye it though because he doesn't want completely gray hair when he's 30 either.

I'm partial to coloring (it's okay for covering grey) but I think natural always looks best under other circumstances. But if coloring isn't odd enough, what about perming?! I just found out TJ Oshie from the Blues (my home hockey team) permed his hair after the Olympics! Who does that?! Clearly he does not have a girl friend to voice her opinion.

my bf highlights blonde in the summer but it looks natural because he already is dark blonde naturally it would be a good way to cover grey in the future i guess, but if it looks unatural, i hate it - turn off! it has to look like it could be your own color - i saw an old man yesterday with practically orange hair...it was ridiculous...if you are 80, it's okay to be a cottonball head

It doesn't matter what Nicolas Cage does to his appearance, I'll always just laugh at him. I never took him seriously before Wicker Man, but I especially can't after seeing it haha. THE BEEEES NO NOT THE BEES For me, it depends on their style. I'd prefer a guy not to, but if he's lookin' good in his tattoos & rocker outfit and sporting black hair dye, I guess I don't mind.

socalbeachgal- some guys look good with a little touch of gray. This may be a personal preference, but I think men always look more polished and distinguished with a little gray.

Oh my god, I had to vote no upon seeing this pic, even if I know a few guys who look good with colored hair (and in high school I really fancied ravers with blue hair, mine was pink ;)). I also think his eye makeup is too apparent. I like my man less polished, thanks.

I agree with tlsgirl, awful picture of Nic. My husband colored his hair for our wedding since he was starting to go gray then but decided it was too much work and money.

Oh my lord, that was the WRONG picture to use. Awful hair. Anyway, um, I'd rather dudes just left their hair as is. Although, to be honest (and probably a little unfair), redheaded guys don't always look right, so I could see doing it in that situation.
