With the matte nail trend going full force, it's all about polishes with white, off-white, and nearly white tones. While it has the low-shine finish that's so very of-the-moment, it's not a chalky, dull look, but it's not an overly sheer or glossy look, either.
The always-fashionable Gwen Stefani has been spotted wearing a more opaque version during her current tour with No Doubt, and other celebrities, such as Paris Hilton, Rachel Zoe, and Molly Sims, have taken part — each with her own twist on the trend.
To get the look, try Essie Nail Polish in Blanc ($8), a snowy white; OPI Nail Polish in Alpine Snow, a matte white; or make your own light polish into a matte one with Essie's Matte About You ($10). See more celebrities who have worn variations of this white/almost-white trend below.

Matte About You is Essie, not OPI.
1I love it!
2See nail polish gets too complicated for me when we start talking glossy vs matte
3I think the nails look really cool and fresh on Gwen. Might actually try it...
4I think it looks like Liquid Paper. We used to paint our nails with it back in high school. It didn't look good then and it doesn't look much better now.
5Louie that's what I thought too! May as well color my nails with highlighter like in gradeschool!
6There is more sheen to it than if you use white out (even with the matte version). I was two people away from Gwen last night...trust me, it looks fab.
7I love it! I think white-ish nails always look so classy and very clean. I used to get french manicures all the time, then I started to fall out of the habit as soon as bright colors came back into fashion
8Hmm. I like white nails, but I don't know about matte white nails. I think the matte polishes look better when they still have some depth to them (like Nubar or Zoya's). Completely matte looks too much like tempera paint (or white-out, as someone said.)
