Hot In The City: Prescriptives Urban Heat Summer Collection

The new Urban Heat Collection from Prescriptives is a beautiful summer product range.

The new Urban Heat Collection from Prescriptives is a beautiful summer product range. It contains a total of 14 items in five categories. They include two limited-edition kohl eye pencils (which have been formulated extra soft for smudging), eight vivid Colorscope lip glosses, one new Colorscope creamy eye shadow, two Colorscope eye colors and one neutral-colored Colorscope lipstick.

Overall, it is a sexy, but clean and vibrant line. It contains pale metallics and bright accent shades that can be worn in the daytime and then darkened for a more sultry evening effect. I've got all of the info on each of the new products, so if you are interested in the prices and a brief color description, read more

Face Mask

Product Review: Prescriptives Intensive Rebuilding Deep Hydrating Mask

The other night my skin was feeling and looking especially dry, so I thought it was an ideal time for an at-home mini facial.

The other night my skin was feeling and looking especially dry, so I thought it was an ideal time for an at-home mini facial. I washed, cleansed, gently exfoliated, and then I applied my new Prescriptives Intensive Rebuilding Deep Hydrating Mask ($28). Since the mask is a little unusual, I'd like to share my experience with you.

The directions say to leave it on for 15 minutes, and in this time it never hardens. The mask smells clean, and its gel-like texture makes applying it very simple.

It doesn't tingle, feel cool, or heat up, so it's a good choice if your skin is sensitive. When it came time for removal, I noticed that it hadn't all absorbed and that there was a sticky, filmy layer left over. The box said to tissue off the mask, but I needed to wash my face with water and a light soap to remove all of the residue.

The immediate result was smoother and softer skin, and the next day I noticed that my skin tone was more even. Additionally, the dryness was gone (but I can't give the mask full credit, since I did also exfoliate).

I would confidently recommend this to someone who doesn't use a night cream, a facial oil, or anything extra to quench thirsty skin. It is so gentle that I can't imagine it would block pores if used only twice a week. Plus, the fact that you don't have to endure any of that awkward typical mask stiffness makes this a great choice.

Prescriptives Heads to the Technotropics For Spring

Prescriptives's Spring collection is bright, lush, and gorgeous — exactly what we need during the less sunny months.

Prescriptives's Spring collection is bright, lush, and gorgeous — exactly what we need during the less sunny months.

Technotropics includes a lot of bold colors, but as you can see from this photo, there are some beautiful natural shades as well. The lip gloss compacts are particularly alluring, but there's also a gel eyeliner that sounds perfect. Rich in shades of pink and hibiscus, it's something I can't wait to play with when it hits counters on Jan. 15.

Product Review: Prescriptives The Illuminator

At first glance this Limited-Edition The Illuminator All Over Face Color palette from Prescriptives looks a lot like the famous Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks.

At first glance this Limited-Edition The Illuminator All Over Face Color palette from Prescriptives looks a lot like the famous Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks. Unfortunately, when you begin to examine the colors, you'll find that it's definitely not as neutral or as versatile. In fact, instead of being wrapped in a pretty faux-leather gunmetal case, I think it should come with a a warning label that reads: FOR THOSE WHO CRAVE A GLITTERY ORANGE TINT.

The shimmer strips are so sparkly that it's hard to make an excuse for why you would wear heavy gold all over your face, but if you can separate the colors with a shadow brush, then the lighter shades are nice for your eyes.

Maybe I'm being bit harsh. The truth is, it's not completely terrible, but it's certainly not my favorite palette of all time. For those of you with olive or ebony skin tones, I think you may be able to pull it off, since it contains a bright pink blush as well as coppery-gold bronzers. But my skin is too fair to work with these colors.

Also, I think the price point is fair, so that is why I gave it three stars. I've read a lot of reviews on this product, and I've been looking for someone to commiserate with, but to no avail — so it's possible that my negativity stands alone. Have you tried it? If so, what do you think?

Skin Care

Product Review: Prescriptives Instant Gratification Skin Renewal Peel

Prescriptives has just come out with a new skincare product called Instant Gratification ($45).

Prescriptives has just come out with a new skincare product called Instant Gratification ($45). It's a self-heating mask with microbeads that whisk away dead skin, and it promises to combine the benefits of a facial, peel and microdermabrasion—with results equivalent to a 30% glycolic acid peel.

Although I wasn't an immediate fan of Instant Gratification, it's won me over for its simplicity and results. I keep going back to this mask over and over, so it's definitely doing something right. For the full review, read more

Bergdorf Goodman

Inside the World of Prescriptives Custom Blend

On Monday, I had a real treat.

On Monday, I had a real treat. Prescriptives invited me to Bergdorf Goodman to try its Custom Blend service. Now, this is different from Colorprinting. Colorprinting involves finding out which tones your skin has, then choosing existing products within the appropriate family. The Custom Blend service involves working with a makeup artist to create a precise foundation, concealer, lip gloss and/or powder—specifically created to match your skin tone.

My makeup artist was Matthew Garber, who I highly recommend seeing if you're in New York. He's fun, funny and very easy to work with. We decided to do a Custom Blend foundation ($62) and concealer ($32). To find out how it went, and to see pictures of the process, read more

Must-Have of the Moment: Prescriptives Colorscope Custom Color Shifter

These revolutionary Prescriptives Colorscope Custom Color Shifters ($17.50) are not only cool to look at, but they are the new must-have of the moment for your makeup bag!

These revolutionary Prescriptives Colorscope Custom Color Shifters ($17.50) are not only cool to look at, but they are the new must-have of the moment for your makeup bag!

Why did't anyone think of this idea sooner? These two lipsticks have so many great qualities. They have been created in silver and gold shades to allow you to transform any lipstick that you already have into either a cool or warm shade.

While they look shimmery and tempting enough to wear alone, they work best if you layer the silver over your favorite lipstick for a cooling effect, or the gold for a warming effect. In addition, they contain conditioning properties to moisturize your lips as well as antioxidants to protect, soothe and keep them looking and feeling healthy!
