The Rachel Comey "Blank" Smoky Eye: Wearable or Not?

As Fashion Week comes to a close, one of the most talked-about looks — and one that Team Bella can't stop thinking about — has been the eye makeup at Rachel Comey's show. Her models walked the runway wearing eyeliner traced out into the shape of a big smoky eye, but with none of the actual shadow filled in underneath. But how will the look translate to the real world, and is it the sort of thing you can wear on the street? I re-created the look at Sugar HQ, and reactions were mixed. What do you think? Does this graphic liner style work on a real girl, or should it be left on the catwalk?

As it is, I find it totally unwearable. Maybe a softer, more blended, brownish line would look nice but this look kind of weird.@ nadienne - Oh boy, that has to be one of the worst make up trends of all time! I still see some women wearing their lipstick/lip-liner that way and it always look kinda ridiculous ;D

Absolutely not. I don't even think it looks good on the models. It's very reminiscent of the dark lipliner/nude lip combo everyone did in the nineties, and that some Latinas still do--and it's a look I've always abhorred.

I think it suits the eye shape of the girl in the top right picture, but not so much larger eyes with already-defined creases.. It could be because of the outer-V part of it. It's much less prominent in the top right picture but it sticks out a bit too much in the other pictures. I quite like it as it looks in the top right picture!

I think it could be wearable, you just need to adjust it. Applying it only on the outer crease and using brown instead of black would look much better.

I did the look last night. Using a cream liner, and a MAC 209 brush. I went slow.... and set the line with MAC Typographic. It's pretty similar to Julianne Moore from "A Single Man", only without the pale base shadow and other liner. Wearable, but it needs something in order for most people to appreciate it.

While it looks a lot better on Bella than on the runway, I'd still say it's unwearable for the every day girl. Maybe to a hip new club/etc. (but then there's the inevitable smearing on a sweaty dancing eyelid). All in all, neat to look at on models, but best left on the runway this season.

Absolutely unwearable. I'd wear it for an work event since I'm a makeup artist, but I'd definitely have to complement it with new-agey hair and outfit.

From a distance, it could look like one has super-defined double eyelids and a nice brow bone (like it looks in the pic on top-right). But one me - I'd like my eyeshadow pls :D

I'm going to go with: NOT wearable for the everyday girl. I think a recreation of this could be done using only a medium shade of shadow and leaving the rest of the eye bare - could be pretty! The harshness of the eyeliner just looks like you either forgot to finish your makeup or that a plastic surgeon was marking on you.
