How Champagne and Wax Can Lead to Better Skin

There are a lot of reasons to like Remede Spa at the St. Regis San Francisco: the sleek women's lounge, the pool access, the cozy robes, the handmade chocolate truffles and Champagne offered post-treatment. But the best of all may be the luxe spa's customized facial. Along with pampering perks such as a paraffin foot wrap, the treatment itself is nearly obsessive about treating skin well. For instance, instead of using steam to prepare the face for extractions, estheticians paint warm paraffin on the face; not only is the temperature soothing, the wax also has a lower chance of irritating skin than hot steam does. Unlike poke-and-prod facials that leave a red, angry complexion behind, our gentle facial virtually stopped a nasty breakout while leaving skin glowing. At $175 for an hour, Remede's facial isn't for the light of wallet (ours was comped). But if you're looking to be seriously pampered and get serious skin care at the same time, Remede delivers on all counts.

Product Review: Laboratoire Remède Post-Peel Skin-Calming Balm

Some facials involve a bit of discomfort, but they shouldn't burn your skin.

Some facials involve a bit of discomfort, but they shouldn't burn your skin. Unfortunately, a recent facial used too-hot oils and lemongrass oil, leaving my skin rough, flaky and thoroughly angry.

Enter Laboratoire Remède Post-Peel Skin-Calming Balm ($42), recommended to me by an esthetician at Remède who saw my rough, red cheeks. She recommended this off-white balm, claiming that it would soften my skin and reduce the redness. Truthfully, I didn't have high hopes, but I dutifully took home a tiny sample and applied it that night.

Wowza! The next morning, most of the rough and red patches were gone. The balm contains aloe, shea butter, willowherb extract, and other calming ingredients — and judging by my experience, they work. I have a feeling this balm will be a lifesaver come wintertime, but for now, it's returned my roughed-up skin to a blissfully smooth state.

Beauty Marked! A Gentle Exfoliator for The Red Carpet!

With the Oscars red carpet quickly approaching celebs have already visited their dermatologists, and other "doctors," in anticipation of the ultimate scrutinizing.

With the Oscars red carpet quickly approaching celebs have already visited their dermatologists, and other "doctors," in anticipation of the ultimate scrutinizing. Now it's time to zero in on the ensemble, get a massage, or two, and refresh the skin so it is glowing on Sunday.

I have just squeezed out the very last drop of my Sweep by Remede facial exfoliator. I keep it in the shower and use a nickel sized amount twice a week on my face. Call me sick, but I like how you can really feel the little particles scrubbing away your dead/dry skin. The best part about this is that it's light and doesn't irritate - this is key since seasoned celebs know better than to experiment this close to the big day.

Since I am such a beauty junkie, I simply refuse to buy another tube. I'd really like to try something different, something that will gently exfoliate me so I shine on the red carpet! I asked you all to go beauty marking to help me find a new facial exfoliator for sensitive skin. To see all the beauty marks for gentle exfoliators click here.

Beauty Mark #1, found by redegg is this Boscia Smoothing Facial Polish. She says it is 'all natural and great for sensitive/combination skin. You are supposed to use them twice a week but they are gentle enough that I use it every day.' Right on.
