Last night at the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards, many stars on the red carpet opted for sexy waves , but there also were a few slicked-back updos in the crowd that really stood out. Need a way to stay cool this warm-weathered season, all while actually looking cool? Check out five sleek updos that not only keep hair off the forehead and neck, but also happen to be alluring.
Miranda Kerr was simply stunning in a basic bun. To keep the hair looking soft, not wet, like Miranda's, try a medium-hold setting lotion such as Bumble and Bumble's Styling Crème ($24).
But if slicked-back à la Kirsten Dunst is the look you want to achieve, a shine-enhancing styling product, such as Modern Organic Products' Glisten high-shine pomade ($16), is the way to go.
Can't get the back of your updo just right? Then disguise it with a headwrap or hooded ensemble, like Karolina Kurkova.
For something less severe, look to Lucy Liu for inspiration. Her parted-on-the-side updo is softer in appearance, and a bevy of curls peeking out from the side makes it look ultrafeminine.
Jessica Alba 's slicked-back style was accentuated with a V neckline, statement earrings, and a peachy lip color. A few loose curls in the back kept it from looking too serious.
