Sofia Vergara Spills on Getting Gloria's Leopard-Wearing Confidence

Find me a woman who doesn't envy a little bit of Sofia Vergara's sex appeal. The Colombian actress, known for her role as Gloria on the Emmy-winning Modern Family, oozes with womanhood. Be it her long, voluminous waves, her unapologetically curvaceous figure, or her commitment to getting dolled up for the red carpet, Sofia knows how to stop traffic. So we weren't that surprised when Hollywood hunk Joe Manganiello linked up with her romantically. And to top it off, she's also a business woman with a clothing line for Kmart and a CoverGirl gig to her name. This Fall, she's launching her first-ever fragrance, Sofia by Sofia Vergara ($48).

The scent has top notes of fruit (blackberry, sparkling cassis buds, plum), which are a nod to her energy. Middle notes of flowers (purple violet, Colombian rose, Colombian orchid) pay homage to her home country. And the musky base notes (earthy woods, vanilla, and sandalwood) are inspired by her "provocative magnetism" (as stated in the press release). The soft blush color and multifaceted bottle are influenced by her glamorous style. Basically, this scent evokes all things sexy. Just like its founder.

To celebrate this beauty launch, Sofia exclusively opened up to us about her beauty essentials, the sixth season of Modern Family, and feeling as gutsy as Gloria. Source: Getty

POPSUGAR: What's your first fragrance memory?

Sofia Vergara: Growing up in Colombia, I always remember my mom and aunts wearing delicious perfumes. We also always had flowers in our home, because flowers are very common in Colombia. I knew I wanted to include some of those flowers in my fragrance, so I included the Colombian rose and the Colombian orchid.

PS: How did the fragrance change from start to finish? What inspired you during the process of making it?

SV: The fragrance changed just in trying to get the right balance of it not being too flowery, not too fruity, and not too earthy. It had to be a balance of all three. I wanted to create something that every woman could wear, every age and ethnicity, and something that men would love too.

PS: When people smell the fragrance, they feel . . .

SV: Glamorous, sophisticated, and irresistible.

PS: Who do you see wearing this scent?

SV: My fragrance is for all types of women. My mother could wear it, I could wear it, and my 22-year-old niece could wear it. I believe all women want to feel their best, and scent is a big part of that.

PS: Where do you like to spray perfume? Any application tricks/techniques?

SV: I spray it everywhere. I like to apply a little bit all over instead of doing a big spritz in one spot.

PS: How are you similar to your character Gloria on Modern Family? How are you different?

SV: Gloria and I are both very glamorous and confident, and I feel we are both very relatable women. We're both lighthearted and outspoken. We also love and treasure being with our family, and that is a priority.

PS: What's the best style tip you've learned from Gloria?

SV: Don't be afraid of animal print.

PS: What can we expect in the sixth season of Modern Family?

SV: It has been so much fun shooting the sixth season. We have shot six episodes already. You will see all of the families dealing with all of the crazy things that happen to them. Our writers are amazing, and they keep coming up with great ideas for all of the characters.

PS: What's something you haven't tried beauty-wise that you'd like to?

SV: I think I've tried it all! I am not shy about experimenting with new products and different styles, but now I really focus on what works best for me.

PS: How do you change up your skin care and beauty routine for Fall?

SV: The weather in LA is warm, but when I travel to colder states I am always hydrating my hair with conditioners and moisturizing my skin.

PS: What are five makeup and hair items you cannot live without?

SV: I don't want to live without any of the products I love! If I had to choose five, I'd probably say lipstick, mascara, eyeliner, my Head & Shoulders [products], and hairspray.

PS: What's your best advice for looking and feeling sexy when it comes to beauty?

SV: You need to work with what you have and know what looks good on you. I think being sexy really has a lot to do with confidence, and when you find the right shade of lipstick or the perfect hair color, you look and feel more confident. Confidence is incredibly sexy in my opinion.

PS: What gives you confidence?

SV: Latin women are raised to have poise and pride in everything we do, so we're always feeling kind of sexy. Of course it's easy to spend time focusing on things you'd like to change about yourself, but I think you have to be grateful for what you have and I try to show that.
