A little romantic and a little edgy was the overall look for the hair, makeup, and nails at Alice + Olivia's Fall 2013 showing. The braided style, mixed with smudged eye makeup and a crimson lip, lent a modern take on a Renaissance aesthetic.

Makeup: Sarah Lucero for Stila conceptualized the gorgeous Fall makeup palette for Alice + Olivia's Fall 2013 show. She focused on the lips, using Stila's Stay All Day Lip Vinyl Gloss in Merlot, a rich, high-shine crimson hue. And to balance the strength of the bold lip, she kept the eye makeup soft and shimmering with In the Light Eye Shadow Palette and Metal-Eyes Foil Finish Shadow. To get a similar chromatic effect on the eyes, wet your brush before applying the gold shadow to your lids.

Hair: The hair, by Antonio Corral Calero for Moroccanoil, featured a wreath of braids on top of the head. To achieve the style, he parted the hair in the center and created two separate braids. Next, he wrapped them in opposite directions around the head, tucked the braids under, and secured with bobby pins. He let pieces of hair frame the face to add to the romantic feel.

Nails: There were three nail looks by NCLA. Depending on what the model was wearing for the show, she had one of three colors on her nails: Rush Hour (vibrant red), Call Me For the After Party (metallic blue), or Alice + Olivia Plaid Nail Wraps.

Cynthia Rowley went for a little dark romance for her Fall 2013 collection, which translated to a pretty and wearable look featuring a bold dark lip to match the nails, all courtesy of Beauty.com. We loved how the matte texture showed up on the lips and nails.

Hair: Esther Langham for Alterna brought out the softness in the rather dark look with dry-textured curls. She applied the brand's 48-Hour Volume Spray to wet hair and rough blow-dried. Next, she made a crisp middle part and curled thick sections of hair using a 1 1/4-inch curling iron. She made sure to leave the ends out, so the curls weren't too precious. Once the curls were set, she went through them with a wide-tooth comb and finished them off with a little dry shampoo for a matte texture.

Makeup: The makeup brought out the darker side with a rusty-shadowed eye and a deep purple lip. Romy Soleimani for Beauty.com mixed the Joanna Vargas Rejuvenating Serum with Stila Pigalle and Fine Eye Shadows to give the makeup a lived-in quality. The focus was the deep plum lip, which was created using Stila's Gemma Color Balm all over the lips, and then topped off with Improvise and Glance Eye Shadows to deepen the color and add a matte finish.

Nails: Deborah Lippmann created the complementing manicure: a superdeep plum finished with a matte top coat. She used Dark Side of the Moon topped off with Flat Top to bring to life the dark-textured manicure — definitely a huge trend for Fall.

If you loved this season's bright orange lip and eye shadow trend, good news: you can keep wearing carrot and persimmon shades well into the months to come. Orange is the color of the season, after all, as falling leaves and pumpkin patches thrive. Here's how to convert this seemingly summery trend into something to wear year-round.

For eyes: Summer's orange eye makeup was sheer and pale. But as shown at Dries Van Noten (top right), we're picking up the pigment for Fall. Try a deep burnt orange shade like Fire from the Stila In the Know palette ($39). Feeling daring? Extend the pumpkin color past lids and below brows.

For lips: Whitney Eve (left) and Thakoon (bottom right) showcased red-orange lips this season. Get the look with a lip color like Nars Heat Wave ($24). Opt for a matte formula instead of gloss for a more sophisticated look.

Waterproof mascaras can be a girl's best friend or her worst enemy. Sure, they stay put all day and don't melt down your face (if you're lucky), but they can also leave you with dried-out, flaky lashes. But somehow Stila has given these major mascara faux pas the one-two punch. The brand's Stay All Day mascara ($22) clings to your lashes for hours while leaving them soft and supple. No crunchy, spidery eyes here.

Not only does the mascara stay budge-proof from morning to night, it brushes on without any clumps. The triangular brush also lifts and lengthens, leaving you with lashes that frame your eyes in a glamorous, flattering way. Sound too good to be true? There is a small downside; the wand traps a lot of the product, pulling more out of the tube than you need. This can lead to a messy application if you don't wipe the excess off before you swipe it on. But for long, thick lashes that last and last? We'll take the extra step.

Stila's holiday palettes are always lovely, but this year's Dream in Full Color palette ($39) is both totally gorgeous and amazingly affordable. Plus, it comes with an easy-to-follow instruction booklet that tells you how to create seven different looks. Even if you lose the booklet, all you really need to know is that you start outside of each "petal" and work your way toward the center, finishing up with the included waterproof liner pencil. The shadow in the middle is Stila's beloved Kitten, and there's even blush ringing the outside. And if you like the multishadow compact idea but want something portable (the Full Color palette is about the size of a Frisbee), check out the Daydream palette ($18), a miniversion with bright shades and just a few less color layering options.
