Tea tree oil is a natural essential oil, an antiseptic, antibacterial, it fights off various fungi as well as many different types of germs. It is commonly referred to as Australian tea tree oil, and by it's latin name, Melaleuca alternifolia.
There is a multitude of first-aid and household uses for tea tree oils. Treatments include fighting athletes foot, fighting off cold and flu symptoms, oral thrush, cold sores, toothaches, gum infections, ringworm, head lice, nail infections, body odor, mosquito bites, cuts, abrasions, and sunburn. (Whew!) It can be used as a natural spot treatment for blemishes, which is why you'll see it in so many acne treatments.
As you can see, tea tree oil is a versatile healer as well as a soothing and effective disinfectant. It can reach the lower layers of skin and it promotes sweating. This is helpful when you body is trying to ward off infection. Stay tuned this week for my series on products containing tea tree oil!

I love tea tree oil, I use it as a spot treatment all the time.
1wow, what versatile remedy.
2i've used it in the past..
3Tea tree oil is perfect for on the spot blemish treatment. Just be careful you don't overdo it, this can be very drying.
4it's very good and i've been using it since i was 12. it actually goes well with silver serum - they don't neutrolise each other and combined you'll get better effects.
5I love it. I use it for blemish treatment, as well as any kind of small cut or scrape.
6I also love the smell of it...I use it on hangnails!
7This gives me more reason to try this!
8This is always in my cabinet but I can't say I care for the smell.
9this is interesting - I need to find some to try!
10I'm looking forward to the tea tree spotlight this coming week. I've used it for years on blemishes, but never for anything else. I wonder which kind is the best, or are they all created equally..?
11I have it and I heard it was good for spot treatment, so I use it on belimishes but I don't really see much results for some reason..maybe I'm not using it right? Not using enough? Using too much? I dunno....what's the best and safest way to apply it?!
For hangnails? Now I never thought about it, but I bet it does work well! And doesn't hurt so bad as other meds. Thanks for the suggestion!!!
12@ MiyaBi_na: I used it too. It doesn't work for deeper pimples, and doesn't do anything that regular (stinkier, more chemically) products cannot do. The only thing that tea tree oil is great at is not drying out the skin, but it may irritate the hell out of it.
I agree with all the other commenters, but I'd put in a caveat: a regular antiseptic ointment works just as well as tea tree oil (in my experience, better), so if you don't have a pretty strong reason to avoid regular products, don't use tea tree oil.
Sadly, I love the smell of tea tree oil. I just wish it would work! I put it in my bath now... ahh...
13Tea Tree oil is great gift of the nature and it is not only used for the infection but it is full of curative properties. It is very effective for the anomalious behaviour of the skin own antibody which demage pigminting process of the skin by demaging skin cell which produce pigminting substance melanin. Lake of the melanin causes skin condition vitiligo. Vitiligo is skin disorder in which white spot appear on the skin (see: http://www.antivitiligo.com/vitiligo/ ). It is also usefull for other autoimmune disorder intead of vitiligo.
