Toddlers & Tiaras, what hath ye wrought, seriously? In this week's episode, a mother took her tiny daughter to the salon to get her eyebrows waxed. Why this even occurred to anyone as a feasible thing is unclear, but it's especially bad because, as the mother herself explains, "She had a bad [waxing] experience . . . the wax was way too hot and it ripped off her skin, so she's been kind of terrified ever since." We're pretty terrified, too. Here's the footage:

Is the woman doing the waxing being investigated? Because no beautician/aesthetician should be performing waxing jobs on a small child.

I think it is disgusting that the mother would try to bribe her child with candy. I have a seven year old daughter and the last thing I want to do is take away her childhood with self image issues. This woman is not letting her child be a child, and I think she can potentially contribute to this child having a lot of self image issues when she gets older. What a selfish b*tch.

How is she not being investigated by some child protection agency. It is abuse on so many levels, just because she isn't angry and it isn't a belt does not make it any less harmful. Disgusting.

Oolala, you make a good point about the mom being desensitized. This is probably not the first time her daughter has cried and screamed about going through a "necessary" grooming ritual.

The reason why the mother--and this is absolutely not in her defense whatsoever--doesn't seem phased by her daughter's terrified reaction is because she is expecting it; the way some parents become used to their children acting up desensitizes them to legitimate issues. It's appalling that she has already put her daughter through the ordeal once before, and subjecting her to it again without a care for how she feels is downright evil. The poor girl, unfortunately, is probably being steered into a nasty, unhappy world where she will be chasing after airbrushed glamor that she will never be able to manifest in reality. In other words, she's probably already showing signs of being a proverbial 'diva' (when I was growing up, we called them 'brats'!), and it is clearly her mother's fault. I feel sorry for the girl, because I bet she gives her mother and peers a hard time having been brought up to be so 'high maintenance'... I agree with another commenter who mentioned child endangerment. The girl really is better off being taken away from her media-guzzling mother and allowed to grow up nurturing her appearance instead of improving perceived imperfections that her own MOTHER picks out! Despicable.

To be honest, I'm not even clear on why the aesthetician agreed to do it, unless she was scared the mother would try it at home if she didn't and hurt the child even more. Either way, it seems like another adult needs to intervene here. Like a dad or grandparent, mebbe?

That is ridiculous. It's cruel. A four year old doesn't need her eyebrows waxed! No one should force their child to do something that makes them uncomfortable or "terrified." Someone needs to wax off that woman's eyebrows completely!

This is horrible. I hope that girl grows up to go totally granola: furry legs and a unibrow, just to spite her mother for being so mean to a four year old. What good can that possibly say about her as a parent? The girl is, by her mom's ADMISSION, "terrified" of brow waxing (I'm 23 and I won't do it either!!) and yet she stands by watching her daughter scream under the shaking hands of a clearly VERY uncomfortable stylist. I can't watch shows like this; the idea that there are people in the world who think that forcing toddlers and kids into beauty pageants is okay makes me sick. Let them worry obsessively about their looks when they're teenagers, it's totally normal. THIS is just mean, and in my opinion, grounds for child endangerment.
