Trend Alert: The Short Crop

Trim back your worries in 2008 with an all new “It” hairstyle. Next season’s must-have haircut is the short crop (aka pixie cut) and was inspired by Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick.

Up-and-coming models like Agyness Deyn (pictured) and Anja Rubik ruled the Spring 2008 runways with this chic hairdo at shows such as Dolce & Gabbana, Matthew Williamson, Proenza Schouler.

The best part is that you can simplify your style for the new year! Just blow-dry hair, then add in a little bit of hair wax and hairspray as a finishing touch.

I just found this page, it was so weird hearing so many bad things about this hair.. I just got it done and it is AMAZING. Always get compliments! :D

My wife has a short pixie she's so hot and will never grow it out agian she loves it short.

I love this look, and have had a pixie cut on and off for years, and I get tons of compliments on my hair. People tell me it makes my face look prettier and also thinner, for some reason, when its very short. I love that I can fix my hair in 5 minutes, as opposed to the 30-45 mins. I used to spend blow-drying and flat-ironing my bob haircut to get it straight and smooth. Although I can think of many better advertisements for the pixie than the above picture of Agyness Deyn (she looks like she did too much partying, and stole the clothes of the man she went home with, to sneak out to this event). Winona Ryder, Keira Knightley, Audrey Hepburn, and Charlize Theron in "The Astronaut's Wife" are all my short hair role models.

I had my hair like this for awhile, and I probably got more compliments (from guys and gals alike) with this haircut than any other. I absolutely loved it and have thought about going back to it recently. Believe it or not, I almost think I got more attention from guys when my hair was kind of fauxhawkish than when it was ever long. My boyfriend now tells me when my hair is getting too long (he loves short hair on me). To each her own, I always say, but don't put down a short hair cut just because you're too insecure to rock it. Agyness is a fashion icon for a lot of reasons, but her undeniable confidence to pull off anything and feel hot is the most important piece of the puzzle.

Very very few people can pull a look like this off but for those with pretty enough features, I think it's great. I love the gamine look- it's low maintenance, chic and original.

I would love short hair like that, but my hair is really curly and it's just easier long. But I'm always so impressed with a woman who can rock that kind of style.

scissorz, i absolutely heart your do. i always grow my hair real long, and cut it to a short bob. for that drastic effect i guess. :P this time i'm gonna go shorter than a bob. ;)

scissorz - I do agree that some women still attach being feminine with longer hair; but I think even more so, most women don't like this particular style (and by particular, I mean the piecey, stacked top) because you have to have a certain personality or facial structure to pull it off. If someone less androgynous than this chick (Seriously, how did she come up with this name? It's harder than heck to spell correctly without looking it up, no matter how many times I have seen it in print.) was used for the picture, maybe the responses wouldn't be so negative. Plenty of women still look feminine and gorgeous with this exact cut, whether style classicly or with some attitude. Ladies, don't forget that Agyness is popular because she is supposed to have a different look about her. To the women out there who can pull it off - Rock on. I would love to have the versatility to be able to sport a pixie.

I had really short hair (1 or 2 inches) for a while, and absolutely loved it. Wanted a change so it's been growing for a while, once my hair got to a certain length I had to straighten it because my hair is really wavy, and I was getting very angular cuts that had to be "just so" it's now long enough to pull back into a ponytail and I'm tired of it - I felt so much more stylish with short hair, it showed off my face more too, made me look like I had nice cheekbones and all. :) even my boyfriend liked my short hair - ever since I've been growing it, he keeps mentioning (not very subtley) how much he liked it short, and that he'd love it if I'd cut it again. I'd never do anything just because he wants it, but I like it shorter myself so next haircut, it's all going. Also easier to dye (I use bright semi-permanent dyes like Special Effects and Manic Panic that require I bleach out my hair - it's really difficult and time consuming to use these dyes on long thick hair like mine, which is why my hair is bleached out at the moment, but not blue or pink or purple like it has been for the past couple years)

my goodness... short hair really appears to be the end of the world huh? can i make wreching noises when i see long hair? or for every time i hear at the office, "oh i'd cut my hair but my bf/husband won't let me". I don't think so... it's a hair style. if a dude likes it so much let him traipse around with 5 pounds of hair on a hot day. i don't think i suddenly grew a dick and became a boy when i cut my long hair off. [checking] no still a girl. it's so outdated to cling to your gender identity based on long hair. keep it 'cause you like it, not because that's what women are supposed to look like.

I had that cut for years - I loved it! I also buzzed my hair to 1/2" for a couple of years, and I loved that, too. Lots o' hair is not what makes a woman beautiful or feminine.

My husband started dating me BECAUSE of my short hair. Don't give up your personality to court someone who won't even like you for what you really want to do... Just saying...

scissorz, I agree. We should examine why we feel long hair equates femininity and why we choose to keep long hair. There is more to me than my hair. I'm very much so like verily, in that I go in cycles from growing out my hair, to chopping it above chin=length. One summer, I was so fed up with being a woman and feeling like I had to conform-- so I got nearly a buzz cut. It was fun. It was soooo refreshing! Ever wonder why guys stick their heads out the window as they drive?! The wind feels AMAZING! Used so little hair product (woo hooo! Money saved!), but I let my hair grow out because it's too big of a pain to maintain-- to constantly get my hair trimmed. My hair's long right now because I call it my "courting hair." I almost loathe long hair, but the fact of the matter is, hetero men tend to prefer long hair and right now, I want me a man. Sigh. That and I'm broke. No money to get my hair cut. Ha. :(

Morgan - you got it dead on. People are INSECURE! If they had any personal style and/or confidence they'd actually be able to see the beauty in a short head of hair. These women hide behind their long flowing hair thinking it's what makes them beautiful, but in the end your confidence and your soul is what makes you beautiful, that's it.

Why is everyone so damn insecure? Longer hair simply doesn't look good on everyone - I am an example. I shaved my head once, for the hell of it. It looked pretty good and was damn comfortable, and now that I have some length again, I can go for structured, angled, geometric cuts - actual innovative things, as opposed to a curtain that's just hanging there. I love short.

I LOVE my short hair. I have tried to grow it out, and did when I was pregnant with my first baby...but then I cut it off again. It's super easy and I always feel super feminine and pretty. However, I can understand for some people, concerning face shape, that it might not work for them. All levels of short can be pretty. I am loving this new trend of short/er hair.

I just got my hair cut really short like this. It was sort of not my first choice, but due to an illness and the surgeries that followed it was necessary. I am so glad that I am setting the trend for once, usually I am jumping on the bandwagon at the last minute. Contrary to what some people are saying it doesn't make you look like a boy. Look at Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Portman, and Keira Knightley, they are all examples of the epitome of femininity.

I've had my hair cut short like that a few times before. I tend to go in cycles where I get sick of my hair and cut it all off in a pixie and then wind up growing it out for ages.

I had short hair for years, I even shaved it once just to try. Short hair is very comfortable and refreshing, and I think it looks so girly! Maybe not on Agyness because she looks like a man, but think of Audrey Hepburn and Jean Seberg, for example, or Halle Berry, Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder... I have it long now though, you really miss the feeling after a while. 1stharbinger I would add some small accesories, like a headband or some hairpins, they look girlie and fun.
