Several years ago, one of my friends had this amazing "Who does your hair?" kind of color job. It was darker underneath and lighter on top, with chunkier lowlights framing her face. While the thick streaks are most definitely out these days, multitonal color seems to be making a comeback. But, this time around it's not so severe. Added bonus? Because the dark layers peek out subtly, this technique can be a great way to give your hair a little update without a lot of cost.

While the two-toned color of Ciara is a lighter blond underneath, these ladies don't underestimate the power of the dark side. What do you think? Is it a look you'll soon be sporting?

I love Kate Moss' version the best because it's more vivacious, the other two are TOO subtle. Needless to say all three styles are very nice, love that hairstyle!

To me it just looks like these ladies missed their last few appointments with their colorist. I'm sporting the same look right now. Who knew it was trendy?
2yeah i dunno if i'd call this a trend...
3Yeah, I totally thought this blog was about something else when I saw the title.
4I already am, but it's very, very subtle.
5Ok Whip!! me too. I think it's time for my nap!
6I've always hated this look or "trend".
7Eh sometimes it just looks like you have bad roots growing out, not flattering on anyone.
8I have the same look that Cameron has. It is very subtle, but I get compliments all the time. I think if the two colors aren't too dramatically different, then it looks good.
9I like Cameron's look. I would try this. It looked great on Elizabeth Banks in Zack & Miri.
10I have this. It wasn't really intentional, my hairstylist doesn't like to highlight the underneath layers b/c he says it isn't natural. When you have natural highlights, the sun only hits the top portion of your hair - very true. Also I do get lots of compliments on it!
11Wow! This is hilarious considering the fact that I just dyed my hair back to it's natural medium blonde colour but because of all the bleaching my hair's been through, it's darker on the bottom and underneath!
12So, thanks to this article, I won't be so worried.
I'm sorry, I'm having trouble seeing what the difference is between these ladies hair and the hair I had three weeks ago, when I hadn't been able to get in to get my hair done. It just looks like they have dark roots, except for Kate.
13I like it on Kate. It's subtler than the two tone style used to be and I like it.
14i've been doing this technique for quite some time. while it's great for blondes, it's really killer on redheads.
15umm.... its okay I think you need to update it because that's so 3 minutes ago. I mean people now have brighter colors on there hair, to me some of them just natural and plain.
