While we wait with bated breath for tonight's ANTM campfest, here's another Tyra-based diversion. On last night's Larry King Live, Ms. Banks talked more about her decision to show off her natural hair on her show. (That hairy video is here.) According to Tyra, she wanted to show off her natural hair in a "raw" way:
I've worn weaves and wigs and pieces and clip-ons and clip-outs and clip-downs and around since I was 17, 18, and I wanted to show the real me. I wanted to show the raw me, and I just got out of the shower . . . and then came out of here — on this stage, and this is me. This is me. . . . Hair for black women, we spend $9 billion a year on hair products. So growing up as a young girl and seeing images in the media where they're saying that a certain type of hair is beautiful and yours isn't is very difficult for a black woman. It's a long, political thing that we can do a whole show about.
So will she do a show? That remains to be seen. And as some readers have pointed out, it's a bit incongruous to promote the "accept your natural self" message while rarely featuring natural hair in the Top Model makeovers. Do you think Tyra's choice to show off her natural hair is helpful, or does her other weave-heavy show send a mixed message?

Dorothy Perkins
I do think she's sending a mixed message with those top model makeovers, but at the same time she's trying to do some good now, so I don't want to come down on her too hard.
1I think she just wants ratings. Otherwise why would she do it on her season premiere show after years and years of wearing false hair?
2If she wants to go raw, why does she still straighten her hair? Honestly, I'm confused by all this.
3This big "real hair reveal" was the most anti-climactic thing ever. The real hair basically looks the same as the fake, only less Barbie-esque.
4Tyra is sooo annoying. If I hear a peep about her wigs or weaves or whatever again I will personally walk to her studio and slap the hell out of her.
This is getting out of hand. NOBODY CARES you tranny.
5now that she's making such a big deal out of this,i hope that we won't see her wearing weaves and wigs anymore....
6Oh whatever Tyra! Even when she wore her "natural hair" I noticed it was wet so it would still be straight. She couldn't wear her real hair dry and curly? Please...still fake
7Tyra is Beautiful and has so much talent !!!!!! I'm a huge fan and all of you sound dumb !!!! She is a good example to all women and girls . Everyone always assumes the worst.
8Haters can KISS OUR FAT ASS
Lucky Green: It's the pot calling the kettle on the sounding dumb thing.
Tyra may be beautiful, but her only talent is self-promotion. She quit modeling years ago, so she can quit using the industry as the excuse for her wearing fake hair and getting her natural hair relaxed. If she really wants to help women be more accepting of themselves, she can start by NOT sending mixed messages.
9I believe Tyra hair is still fake.I don't think Tyra can fool me because I have been a hair specialist for many years, and for what I know about Tyra she does not have any hair line. There is just no way someone can wear extension for that long and still have healthy hair line. Even if she save the rest of her hair I know for sure the hair line would not have been that healthy.
What I am simple saying here is that I really do not think Tyra is truthful neither is she keeping it real. I believe she is still lying to the public and to herself. The last time I was in Tyra's make up room they were air brushing her hair line to make it look fuller. I am so disappointed in her for lying to the public. Tell her to go natural without make-up and her NATURAL hair so people can see her real beauty.
Have a wonderful day.
A concern fan,

Hi,
12Just new to here, just want to say hellow to every one.
tyra and myself have the same hair. I have to wet my hair for it to be able to comb, and it looks straight when wet, when it is actually extremely curly.
