What the "Average" Woman From 41 Places Looks Like

An organization called Face Research has been getting lots of attention for its most recent project, which has calculated "average" faces for women from 41 regions. To obtain the results, a collection of head shots from around the globe was gathered, with imaging software used to synthesize a normative face. It's quite interesting to look at, but I can't help but wonder how many pictures were actually used to construct each face. Also, it's a little odd to me that all the women are clear-skinned and really young looking. Still, it's worth a look. To see all 41 average faces, just keep reading.

The reason they all look so good is most likely because we consider "average" faces attractive--average nose size, average eye size, average lip size, etc. Anything too big or too small we might consider unattractive. Since these faces are "average-ified," everything is medium-sized and therefore more attractive.

#16 If anything they should have had Native Americans on there to represent the Americas. But i must say that I think that they did something right because I'm African American and I look nothing like the West African, Central African, South African, or Ethiopian. However I do favor the African American. When you meet a caucasian American, their family comes from some type of European root. So because of that, i don't believe that there are any distinct features or ways that dictates how a Caucasian American looks. So you probably have to go back to your family history and go by that picture. (Granted if it's provided)

Um. . . I'm pretty sure African American is NOT an ethnicity. If they're not including American or Canadian in their list I don't see why African American is included. Especially when they already have West African, South African and Central African.

Also, why are some of the faces half the size of others? Compare Italian to South African! Is that an error or what?!

I really don't look anything like the English girl lol. I've got warm brown hair and eyes and tanned skin... But apparently there is some Italian mixed in my heritage as well as Welsh, Irish and Scottish, but no-one in my family has found out who the Italian is lol. Probably just a rumour.

With the United States being a "melting pot" the average woman probably couldn't be authenticated. I'm happy to see African American was represented.

I think Canada and the US were left out because the focus is more on ethnicity than nationality - with the immense diversity of these two nations, a composite of random faces would likely yield a very unrepresentative face.

Canada wasprobably just left out. As we know there were hundreds of countries that weren't included in the photograph.You'd think they'd have Canada in there, though.

sourcherry: yea it's like when you draw many MANY circular shapes, one on top of the other, eventually you see an even circle... at least, i did when i had to do that for art class hahaha but they do all look YOUNG. i misread the title and thought these were average 41-year old women, and i was like WOW

sourcherry thats cuz asymmetry and wrinkles, etc were eliminated when compiling the photos. thats why they all look good.

Is it me or are all of them really attractive? All perfectly simmetrical faces and, like you said, all with great skin. They certainly don't look "average" to me!
