What's the Best Beauty Advice Your Mom Gave You?

My mom has shared her wisdom throughout the years, and when I've been smart, I've paid attention. Beauty-wise, one of the best things she's done for me — aside from sharing her genes, of course — is keeping me out of the sun. When I was a girl, she encouraged me to climb trees, swim, ride my bike, and do all of the things little kids do. But she hardly ever let me go outside without wearing sunblock, even when I pouted because I couldn't tan.

Turns out that Mom knew best, since we now know that wearing sunblock prevents skin cancer and signs of aging. So when people say I look younger than my age, I credit my mom. So in honor of Mother's Day, what's the best beauty advice your mom shared with you?

My mum is always telling me not to start with unnessecery things too early, like eye cream every day and night cream. No anti wricke creams. But I'm very young still. She always says I use to much of product, especially moisturizer, but i just like that way. Her Dior jar lasts her half a year or a year. Mine less than that... much less :)

She advised me to stand (and sit) up straight, walk properly (with both feet close together), and smile a lot (even if my eyes completely vanish when I smile! haha). Her words always made me feel like I'm the most beautiful person on the planet, despite my plus-sized figure. Thanks Mom! :D

Wear sunscreen and moisturize your skin. When I was a kid she always stressed that wearing makeup should be for fun, not specifically to look prettier or better. It definitely wore off on me. I put on eyeshadow when I have extra time or want to feel dolled up, but not because I think I need makeup. My mom is the cutest!

my mom taught me to age gracefully and be natural. she wouldnt even let me dye my hair for a while, but now i know why: because i should try to accept what i look like and not try to change it. and though i can take steps to stay healthy-looking, messing with how my mummy made me is a bad idea.

"The shoes make the outfit." Being fashionably challenged most days, this simple still helps me dress up jeans and dress down a dress.

Wear sunscreen, roots are nasty and two much black eyeliner makes you look cheap. oh yes, and go easy on the makeup!

Pretty much the same as every other mommy.....sunscreen, wash your face before you go to bed. All of the women in my family have oily skin and unfortunately are doomed to have adult acne but my mom has taught me to embrace my oily skin....she's 55 years old and doesn't have a wrinkle!!!

After reading the comments it sounds like moms go to the same learning school! I would say my mom gave me the same advice as many of you listed above: wash my face every night, do not pick/touch any breakouts, stand up straight, wear sunscreen! She looks a lot younger than her actual age, so i really pay attention to what she has to say :)

Brush your teeth 3 after EVERY meal. She is a dentist with a great smile.

always wear sunglasses!!! haha, my mom always told me to wear sunglasses... because one summer when she was young, she didn't wear sunglasses, and after that summer she swears she had many wrinkles forming from all of her squinting. So now I AAAALWAYS take sunglasses with me. =)

My mom told me to keep my eyebrows in beautiful shape as they are the 'frame of the face' according to her. I still follow the advice :)

Moisturize! And drink lots of water. I'm still young but hopefully I can stay looking this way for a long time. :)

My mom never really put SPF on me so I had to teach myself (I'm a spf freak now,lol.) However she did give me some wise advise: - "When in doubt, go to a pro." I definitely follow this beauty advice. - "Kick a$$." :lol: My mom would tell me this before I left for school in the morning; I had self confidence issues and this would give me a little boost. I tell that to myself whenever I'm doing/trying something new. - You know your body & skin better then anyone else (in refrence to a dermatologist that gave me a skin routine that ended up making things worse.) I follow this advice often.
