The Butt Facial Will Give You a Celebrity-Worthy #Belfie

I know what you're thinking . . . I'd rather spend the money on a facial for my face. But does your face get smooshed into a chair for eight hours a day? No! I'm not doing 50 billion squats a day to firm up my cheekbones. It's my bum I'm worried about this bikini season. So when the opportunity to test out the Shiny Hiney facial ($65) at Skin by Molly spa came up, I willingly volunteered. Now you might be wary of baring your backside for an esthetician, but is it really much worse than a Brazilian wax? I bet Kim Kardashian gets butt facials (I mean, have you seen those honeymoon shots? Her derriere is flawless). Read on to learn all about the experience, and see if it's right for you and your booty.

Editor's note: in honor of total transparency, none of the bums in these photos belong to me.

Who Is It For?

Molly Lamb began offering her Shiny Hiney treatment in May for one of her regular customers dealing with butt acne (aka "assne"). If you have a major breakout on your backside, she recommends getting this treatment twice a month. The facial actually covers the upper thighs, too, making it a great prevacation pick if you're going to be basking beachside.

It starts out like any other body treatment — with those paper underwear that actually cover up way more than a regular thong. Molly asked me to lay on my stomach and ran down the service. It starts with an exfoliating cleanser. Then she applies a toner with salicylic acid. Next, Molly pulls out the Macro Exfoliator. This step is where I lost my cool. It's hard not to laugh when someone goes at your bum with a suction wand. It tickles! But that means the microdermabrasion-like tool is getting rid of thousands of dead skin cells.

Next, an oxygen peel is applied under a mineral mud mask. Then the steam machine is used to help the product penetrate the thicker skin of your bottom. Let me tell you, warm steam on the tush is better than any bidet experience I've had! It's followed by extractions. Surprisingly, my haunches are rather sensitive to the pinching sensation of zit removal. That's finished up with a toner. After (yes, there's more), Molly uses a high-frequency machine. The glass electrode is used over a strip of gauze to dry up oily skin and minimize acne-causing bacteria. The final stage is a serum to lock in moisture. Overall, the entire process takes about 30 minutes.

Surprisingly, I was able to resist staring at my own derriere until I got home. But then the booty-gazing was endless. My gluteus maximus was as soft as a baby's bottom. While I didn't have many posterior pimples to begin with, the skin was noticeably smoother (which I'm sure my boyfriend will appreciate). Perhaps now I'll have the confidence to wear a thong swimsuit on my next beach trip. OK, I'm not quite there yet, but there will be belfies in my future.
