As if I didn't reiterate it enough, sunscreen should be a daily essential. Horrifying sunburns, anyone? Besides lobster-red tones from head to toe, what would happen to your skin if you skipped the 'screen? I've consulted with Dr. Adrienne Denese, a dermatologist who specializes in antiaging techniques, to find out what measures we can take to prevent skin damage. As expected, SPF is key. "The most important step a young woman needs to take is to use sun protection 365 days a year," Dr. Denese says.
The reason? "Over 90 percent of aging of the skin is sun-induced," she adds. "Nearly everything you do not like about your skin — lines, wrinkles, age spots, sun spots, enlarged pores, red capillaries around the nose, loss of tone, and firmness — all have to do with sun exposure." Plus, don't forget that you can get damage from the sun even when the sun is not visible. "It can be overcast. It can be raining or snowing. The UVA rays are present even under these circumstances, undermining the integrity of your skin," advised Dr. Denese. Lesson learned.

I switched from Aveeno sunscreen to La Roche Posay because it contains an ingredient that's been used in French sunscreens for years and was in recent years approved by the FDA. It gives your face better protection. It's pricey- but worth it.
1Yes La Roche Posay is the best! i use 60 spf and im not fair skinned, but its so much better to be better protected even if the difference between 30 and 60 is nothing
2I need to get myself some La Roche Posay too. And there is a difference between SPH 30 and a higher one. It's not a drastic difference, but I would think it would better to have that little bit of extra protection, especially for those who burn easily.
3YAY This makes me feel so much better since I wore sunblock while going for a run today! My mom flaunts such clear and firm skin for her age, and she stresses over and over that it's because she protects her skin from sun's harmful rays. For people like me with oily skin, sunblock is such a hassel, more than it is for others.. But the results will pay off in the end..
4duh!
5Scary stuff, and even more reasons to slather on the SPF
6when will someone talk about damage from sunscreen? most of them are quite drying and irritating.
7yea, i honestly believe that sunscreens are not created equal. And so many of them clog my pores that I just hate it!
8Yay! I am 20 and I frequently nag my peers about using sunscreen. I'm on the search for the best smelling one. Koola makes one that's pulmeria scented, not sun-screeny at all. However, it is pricey for the amount you get. Ocean Potion is inexpensive and smells that creamsicles, plus you get a lot for your money. There is this one by Banana Boat that also smells nice and summery, probably my favorite fragrance of all of the ones said thus far. It's light and summery, and about 10 bucks for a good sized bottle. Now I must find one deliciously scented with skin-positive ingredients!
