What's the Most You'll Spend For a Haircut?

After a string of rather mediocre cuts, I recently went to a salon and spent more than I've ever spent before on a cut. I did a lot of research on Yelp before making the dent in my budget. In the long run, the stylist's meticulous work was worth it. (And I even got a complimentary hand and scalp massage, too.) What about you? Have you set a cap on how much you'll spend for a cut?

It depends on where you get your hair cut, and the texture, I chose 75-100 maximum, because of my hair texture, and lack of hair salons that cater to this hair texture. If you are getting your hair done at natural hair salons or curl experts that are trained by Deva, Ouidad, or the various other curl experts it is going to cost more since they have extra training. It's better to pay a little more for a good cut and style than to go someplace that dosen't know how to properly treat super curly or kinky hair (3b-4b) type hair, and ending up with a terrible cut, and ending result looking like a poofball since the stylist did not know how to deal with your hair, i have experienced this, and have heard other horror stories from people who had their hair done at non-curl friendly salons.

I'm with venus. I've had my hair cut for under 20 and for well over a 100. The prices really never made any difference, and that's why I take that extra money and spend it on something worth while...like new clothes!

I spend about 50$ + tip for a good cut. When I get my highlights done (about 4 times a year) I usually get a cut too and it costs 150$ for everything, but my stylist does a GREAT job.

Wow I read your comments and I consider myself very lucky that my mom is an hairdresser! I get my color and cut done every three months and it costs me a kiss on the cheek lol! I would have a very hard time trusting anyone else with my hair.

Typically I'll spend the $20 at Hair Cuttery, because I've spent more at "nice salons" and the haircuts weren't any better, and in some cases they were terrible. I haven't had my hair cut by someone else since March, though, because I'm trying to grow it out longer and every time I've gone in for a trim in the past 10 years, they end up taking off way more than I've asked. Right now I just don't trust anyone but myself with the scissors, so I'll keep trimming it myself until I really need the back cut (It never gets heat damage back there anyway.)

I agree Venus1! To me it's about the stylist and understanding my hair and listening to my needs. I spent $12 on haircuts for a lifetime, until I went to college and found the best stylist ever, the found a way to provide body to some extremly straight hair for $45 (blowout included). I completly trusted her and loved my cut everytime. Unfortunatly I moved away from there and don't want to pay $50 for someone to mess up my hair... I actually have been going to a paul mitchel school as well as someone else said: $12 - yes it takes a little longer but the girl gave me a great layered cut.

From my experience the price paid for the cut does not always reflect the quality of the cut or the attention paid by the stylist. In the more expensive salons I have been to, they have tended to do what they think I should have as opposed to what I have asked for; so wrong!

My hair cut is $45 not bad but I get it colored and a Brazilian blowout so the total bill can get pricey. And there is a difference between supercuts and a salon.

I actually cut my own hair because I hate spending so much for haircuts I didn't like. On the rare occasion I want something I couldn't handle myself, I'll drop $50-60 to make sure its done right.

Snookyx is totally right... there's a Paul Mitchell school in my town and they give great cuts and coloring for way cheaper. It does take a little bit longer as far as time goes (since students have to have certain things checked on to make sure you don't leave with a bad job), but it's definitely worth it if you're in the market for something new on a budget.

The time I spent more than $25 for a hair cut, it came out terrible. I was lucky to find my current stylist. She works for a chain and they charge $13 for adult cuts. Difficult to find anyone to cut short hair. They say they can, but they just don't understand how it's done.

I spend about $35. If I didn't color my hair, I'd be willing to spend more on a truly awesome cut. But as it is, my bill already is usually around $100 - so I just don't want to spend much more than that!

The high priced salons make you pay for atmosphere. The rent they pay on the centally located building is coming out of your pocket. A good salon with a good repuatation (not Super Cuts, think nice low key salon in a smaller neighborhood) that isn't selling frills shouldn't cost over $50, or they are ripping you off. And oh BTW, I live in Washington DC, not podunk USA.

I usually will never spend more than $75-100 on a haircut when I found hairstylists who have done a great job for $40 or less!

I get my hair cut only 3 or 4 times a year, so $30ish isn't a big deal to me! My stylist is great too!

i like going to aveda institutes and letting students cut my hair. i've never been dissappointed and often like how they perform better than professionals! plus, a fixed $16 with a strict no tipping policy works for my limited, college budget.

A great place to save money on a haircut is to get it done at a beauty school or community college. At the school I go to the cosmetology professors and students cut the hair of other students and any one else who comes it. If a student does it, it cost between $5-$10, the professors charge $10-$20. They also do coloring and pretty much anything else.

My haircuts are $70 plus tips. Having had some bad cuts from cheaper places, I found a stylist that does a great job and even though she's more expensive, I'd rather be happy with the end result than bummed about a bad cut that I had to pay for anyway.

In my country, haircuts start at around 50€ for women. That's in the cheaper salons. I might even go to a hairdresser once in a while if it were cheaper. I cut my own hair (and my mom's and my boyfriend's).

I'm with kismekate... I live in Toronto so unless I go to a discount place, just getting a junior stylist is at least $40 before tip... and I've tried the discounts and the juniors and learned my lesson! Several times over!!! I now go to this AMAZING stylist for a decent $60+tip. Money well spent!
