What's Your Take on the Return of Scrunchies?

In the seemingly endless parade of my junior-high sartorial choices coming back zombie-style, the scrunchie has made its triumphant return. American Apparel is selling scrunchies in bright colors ($3.50), a move that brings back uncomfortable memories of at-home spiral perms and prepubescent awkwardness. Personally, I'm running from this trend faster than you can say "Chris, Mark, Red, Dave, Ro." But something tells me that this could take off with women too young to remember this trend the first time around. Are you going to scrunch again, for the first time, or not at all?

I use black ones to pull my hair back when it's windy, and I like them in tasteful dark colours and not too poofy, but the brightly coloured ones are a little bit tacky. Bright beads - Fun and quirky. Bright scrunchies - never a good move.

I'm 40 years old and i had no idea that scrunchies had gone out of fashion. i wear them everyday and will continue to do so. no doubt people on here are thinking what a looser, she knows nothing about fashion, well just cos you don't like them doesn't me i have to!!! I wear then indoors and outdoors and i don't give a monkeys what snobby people think. don't look down on me just cos i like to wear something that a lot of people don't like. Unlike some people i couldn't give a shit about what people think of me, SO THERE!!!!!!

I guess I'm not one for trends because I still wear scrunchies and I haven't stopped wearing them. Don't get me wrong, I don't wear the hideously bright neon ones or ones with crazy patterns on them, but I will admit to having some brown scrunchies and some black scrunchies (I'm a brunette by the way) that I wear when I want to put my hair in a ponytail or in a loose bun. My hair is too fine for those elasticy ones, even the ones that claim they're tug free and won't tangle have damaged my hair. I literally couldn't get them out or I had to cut them out. I think it's silly to say scrunchies are really a trend because as long as you're not wearing a very vivid color or a really pouffy scrunchie, it's not even noticeable. Mine blend into my hair well enough that it's not even obvious. I just have some cotton, waffle material ones. Personally, I don't care what fashion says because in those instances where I'm pulling my hair out of my face, it's usually out of necessity (cleaning, running errands, etc...) and I just can't be bothered with styling my hair. Out of all the styles that have made comebacks, from those silly hippy headbands that Ashlee Simpson and Nicole Richie wear, to those Jackie O giant sunglasses that Nicole Richie and many other wear, to jumpsuits, I think that scrunchies are least embarrassing.

I wear them around the house alll the time since they don't pull my hair like regular elastics. Occasionally, I will also twist my hair up in a bun with one (always in a neutral, non-attention-grabbing color) and wear it out of the house. It's comfy, what can I say =P

One the one hand, if they look just like they used to, I'm not going to enjoy sitting in lectures and having neon greens and electric pinks blind me... Yet, if they can refine the look and size... I say why not.

I'm not sure the scrunchie ever truly went extinct, they just migrated to rural, less populated areas. I suggest if they want to live they stay there.

I never agreed with the rule that if you're old enough to remember a trend when it comes back you shouldn't wear it, until now. But if plaid baby doll dresses and ridiculous chunky shoes come back in style, I will be the first on that band wagon.

I have really long straight hair and tying it in a scrunchie is a quick and easy way of keeping it out of my face. Clips don't work for me because they always slide off, so scrunchies get the job done, they're practical and don't cost much.

God no, scrunchies are hideous. They only belong in an 80s themed gymnasium. I use the black skinny ouchless hair ties by Goody. I also like headbands but you've got to style your hair right or you'll end up looking like a school girl a la Blaire.

Yes alwayswallis, I am 22 and I remember wearing them and also making scrunchies out of leftover material in sewing class when I was in middle school.

I wear them at home alot and for the gym because they don't damage the hair as much as the other ponytail holders do. But to see it come back as a fashion accessory? No thanks.

I dunno how young you have to be to not remember scrunchies. I consider myself pretty young at 21, and I'm definitely old enough to remember the horrible scrunchie trend. I had a few pretty ugly ones myself back in the day.
