When Has a Blackout Impacted Your Beauty Routine?

I just read a story about a power outage which occurred near a London TV studio. The inconvenient timing of the blackout led to the presenter having her makeup done by torchlight, and the weather girl was forced to appear live with wet locks.

This reminded me of a time when a friend was in cosmetology school. It was on a very rare occasion that the students were allowed to have services done. The unfortunate gal waited patiently until it was her turn to get a sleek blowout, only to have it all disrupted by the great blackout of '03 — soaking hair and all. Have you any colorful stories to share?

Well it didn't happened to me, it happened to my sister on the first day of college!!!! We have bangs and she wasn't able to blow dry out her curly bangs!! so she went to class the first day with her bangs pinned back, it was kinda awkward lol

Blackout during the great Australian heatwave of 09.It was 40C at nine in the morn, I was doing my makeup under the air con. The power failed at home, and the air con on the train couldn't handle the stress either and failed, so I ended up going to a job interview sweaty, immensely dehydrated and with my makeup down my neck.Needless to say I didn't land the job. :(lizlee89 it doesn't just happen in third world countries. Several people died from heat exhaustion during the heatwave, it was around five a day for fifteen days of above 35C heat. Mobile phone carriers were sending out alerts and the red cross set up a phone call check in for aged or impaired people to make sure they were still alive.

This past January. HAD to be the day with -20 temps. Our power went out for some unknown reason, and I had just stepped out of the shower...in my basement bathroom. So I had to feel around in my messy bathroom (thanks to my younger sister, who lives at home, I was just in for the weekend!) for my towels, twist up my hair, then bumble into my bedroom for clothes. I ended up hogging the fireplace for a good half hour while I sat in front of it, brushing my soggy mess of a mane while trying to get it dry.That was also the only day ever that I've gotten my Acadia stuck in snow. I ran back to my apartment (45 mins from my parents'), and they'd plowed the streets of my complex, but they hadn't shifted the drifts from the entrances. So I got stuck. I called emergency maintenance...they told me, basically, "tough nuggets". My wondrous downstairs neighbor helped me dig myself out. So frigging nice!As royally crappy as that whole mess was...Chrstne SO wins. If I'd been stuck atop a coaster in that mess I would have LOST. MY. SHIZ.

I'm sorry, but this question along with the accompaning story just makes me roll my eyes. I know that this is blog about beauty, but boo-hoo, someone didn't get their hair blown out. boo-hoo, someone didn't get their makeup done. I can think of far worse consequences from a lack of electricity - like people whlive in third world countries with no heat and often freeze to death. I know it's a bit drastic, but this is how I feel and I think we should all just be grateful for having electricity and makeup at all...

no, but water black outs happen to me all the time. if i'm colouing my hair and it's time to wash it off and water is gone, when i'm all lathered up in shampoo or bodywash... it happens to me twice a month. at least. yeah, i'm moving soon :) and the most important thing to me will be a good water pressure with constant availability.

Easter at the beach. My friends and I were staying at this rented house and every night around 7 when we were all taking turns to shower and get dressed to go party the power would go out. We'd be stuck with the one mirror in the living room trying to line our eyes with the light from our phones.

i grew up in the country so blackouts were really common during our stormy winters... on many occasions i got ready for school by candlelight, brushing my teeth and washing my face from a bowl of melted snow. it was almost pioneer-style, except pioneers didn't rely on electric pumps for their wells so they probably didn't even have to resort to melting snow... there's def some good reasons i moved to the city as soon as i could :)

I want to say 4 yrs ago. It was the dead of winter and an ice storm not only had us loser power but our furnace went kaput. So mind you I desperately had to take a shower since I had been cleaning the night before so not only was my shower ice cold but I couldn't blow dry my hair in this Boston winter but I had to apply makeup by candlelight. Worse day ever!

The power went out at our apartment, so I was like shit. It was stormy out, so we didn't have lights. I put my hair up and tried to do my makeup by candlelight, which was terrible. So, I get in the car and go to school, and I go to the bathroom and plug in my hair dryer so I can do it, and I finish -- then I start doing my makeup, and the blackout follows me there, and since the power wouldn't turn on, school was cancelled. That didn't help the fact that since there was ZERO light in the bathroom that I left with one eyeliner-less eye, and still looking pretty rough. I finishes my makeup in the car in the parking lot -- for nothing.
