A Shimmery Yet Sleek Rock Star Manicure

One of our Los Angeles readers, sissysugar, went to Nail Service, a nail salon in Little Tokyo, to get this glam manicure.

One of our Los Angeles readers, sissysugar, went to Nail Service, a nail salon in Little Tokyo, to get this glam manicure. The sparkle you see? That's actual loose glitter, which is transferred to the nail during the 90-minute $60 treatment.

For a weekend project, you can attempt this manicure at home. Make your own glitter nail polish by combining your favorite fine-sized-flake craft glitter with clear nail polish. Apply several coats, then finish with a top coat. Or, you can achieve this shimmering look by trying out this fade-to-gold manicure. Use a bright, opaque color as a base, then add a few sheer coats of gold nail polish on the bottom half of the nail. Finish it off with glitter nail polish like Essie's Luxeffects across the whole nail. Rock on.

Help a Reader Out With Her Too-Pink Eye Shadow

Reader poofie126 submitted the following question in the BellaSugar Q and A group.

Reader poofie126 submitted the following question in the BellaSugar Q and A group. Can you help her out?

After hearing people go on and on all over the Internet about NYX Eye Shadows, I gave in and got myself Ultimate Pearl in Golden Pink Pearl ($3). And it is lovely. [The] texture is almost creamy, and the pigmentation is crazy for something that price. [The] problem is, I hate the color! It's my own fault, really. I'll admit [that I] bought it online and didn't bother searching for swatches first. I am Asian. I have fair skin with yellowish undertones, and I think the color looks just plain gaudy on my eyes. I tried mixing it with other colors, [like] bronzes and golds, but they ended up looking like I have a black eye. I tried using it as a blush, and that works OK [but it's a] little too shimmery. Does anyone have any other solutions?

Help a Reader Out With Dark Undereye Circles

In the Bella Community's Problem Solved group, reader IHEARTGGFASHION had a question about concealing dark circles.

In the Bella Community's Problem Solved group, reader IHEARTGGFASHION had a question about concealing dark circles. Think we can help her out? She says:

No matter what I try, I can never seem to mask my dark under-eye circles. And wearing eye makeup is the most frustrating thing of all. I can never wear dark colors or my face looks sort of dirty, but I can't wear light colors, either. And heaven forbid I try to wear liner or shadow on the lower lid. They all seem to make the dark circles seem more prominent. I need makeup tips for my light skin tone and Asian features. Please help!

A Reader Goes Retro For Her Wedding

This post comes from BellaSugar Community member Lauren in the Beauty Product Junkies group.

This post comes from BellaSugar Community member Lauren in the Beauty Product Junkies group.

For my wedding, I had initially wanted to wear a flower in my hair but wanted to only use a fresh flower. Thankfully I realized that a fresh flower probably would have never made it through my afternoon vineyard wedding (a big wilted flower would have made terrible pictures). So as an alternative, I started to shop around for vintage looking brooches. I finally found the one that went perfectly with my dress and jewelry. With the help from a lot of bobby pins, my hairdresser was able to affix the pin in my updo and it never budged.

Help a Reader Out: What Are Your Short-Hair Styling Tips?

Oh no! Member Mippi just got a super-cute new pixie cut, but she tells the Problem Solved group that she has no idea how to style it.

Oh no! Member Mippi just got a super-cute new pixie cut, but she tells the Problem Solved group that she has no idea how to style it. Think we can help a reader out? She says:

Two weeks ago I cut off all my hair. Chop! I love it, seriously. [The] problem is, I've had long hair for so long I don't know how to style it. I love punky, edgy, rocker-chick hair, but I also want versatility. Right now, though, all I seem capable of is looking like Sid Vicious, Sonic the Hedgehog, or my father in his high school portrait.

I've tried finding styling ideas online, but can't find too much, and what I've found are for bobs or don't seem to work for my amazingly fine-yet-copious hair. I'm this close to going to my amazing stylist and plunking down cash I don't have so she can teach me.

So, any suggestions on how to style a pixie?

Olive You, Honey!

This post comes to us from the Natural Beauties group, where member Baigneuse published an awesome DIY recipe.

This post comes to us from the Natural Beauties group, where member Baigneuse published an awesome DIY recipe.

While olive oil and honey have been used in natural beauty concoctions throughout history, it seems as though they've just recently received the spotlight that they deserve.  Honey, a natural antioxidant known for reducing inflammation, is antibacterial and antifungal, making it great for acne-prone skin, and due to its ability to stimulate cytokine production it is also capable of speeding up the healing process.  It's great for lightening scarring and, as a natural humectant, attracting water to the skin, leaving it hydrated and soft.  Olive oil is rich in polyphenols and hydroxytrosol, one of nature's most powerful antioxidants, which strengthens the skin's immune system and protects it from oxidation.  Hydroxytrosol also slows aging by stabilizing the cell plasma membrane.  Olive oil is rich in oleic acid and is a natural emollient and excellent moisturizer.

While you may already know the amazing benefits that these ingredients have in masks, cleansers, and moisturizers, you should also be aware that they can make one banging body scrub.  Get silky smooth skin this Valentine's Day by using the following recipe one day prior to the big event (and as always, perform a patch test first). LORAC Double Feature Concealer/Highlighter Review

Here's an excerpt from OnSugar blog Beautopia: LORAC Double Feature ($24) is a multi-tasking complexion perfector with an interesting design.

Here's an excerpt from OnSugar blog Beautopia:

LORAC Double Feature ($24) is a multi-tasking complexion perfector with an interesting design. The product comes in two parts; the swivel-up concealer stick and the doe-foot wand style vial of highlighter.

The twist-up stick is a creamy and pigmented consistency and it covers well with minimal creasing as the day goes on. It sets well with powder and is easily blended out with a finger or sponge. Included in the packaging is a "blender ball," which is a roller-ball such as you might see on some lip glosses or eye shadows, but it is clean and is meant to be used to smooth the concealer out and blend the harsh lines. The ball is somewhat effective, but I found better results using both my fingers and a wedge sponge. The inherent flaw in the blender ball, in my opinion, is that I don't find it to be very sanitary. You can wipe the ball off with a disinfectant wipe which might degrade the ball in time, or use a wet cloth, but then the moisture will get in below the ball and that might cause blending problems with it later. I think that while the blender ball is fairly superfluous, the concealer is pretty light in feel with heavy-duty results.

Easy Tip: Go to Bed, Wake Up With Curls

Check out what reader blondeyy had to say in the Do-it-Yourself Beauty group: Wake up with gorgeous curls — seriously, fast and easy!

Check out what reader blondeyy had to say in the Do-it-Yourself Beauty group:

Wake up with gorgeous curls — seriously, fast and easy! Spend the morning making a nice cup of tea and watching CNN rather than working on your hair.

  1. Wash your hair at night.
  2. Put your favorite styling cream in damp hair.
  3. Flip your head over (bending at the waist) and pull all hair into a scrunchie on the top of your head.
  4. Section by section, roll hair into curlers and pin. ( I have very long hair and I only need about 6-7 curlers).
  5. Everything stays on the top of your head so you don't feel a thing when you are sleeping.

In the morning: magic! Remove the curlers and scrunchie; either brush hair or finger tousle and you're done! Beautiful hair! I read this somewhere and do it all the time. It is a REAL time saver with fab results!

Scar Creams: Help a Reader Out!

This post comes to us from the Problem Solved group, where member Jaime not Jamie asked for some beauty advice.

This post comes to us from the Problem Solved group, where member Jaime not Jamie asked for some beauty advice.

Last week, I had surgery on my neck. I'm grateful that it was nothing serious, but I'm left with a scar that's a little over an inch long. Kudos to my surgeon for making such a small incision, but since the mark is on such a visible part of my body, I want to make sure that I do everything I can to help it heal nicely. Do any of you have experience with scar creams, vitamins, or any home remedies? I'd really appreciate the advice!
