Christian Siriano Launches One Fiercely Fashionable Fragrance

Every girl (not so secretly) dreams about wearing a long, whimsical princess gown from the Fashion Week runway. Christian Siriano understands his ladies, because when he designed his premiere fragrance (out today!), he was inspired by an ultraromantic blue tulle dress from his Spring 2013 collection. Thus the name of the scent, Silhouette, was born.

And just like that famous layered tulle dress (pictured below), the fragrance has layers of notes; cassis, wet greens, and purple berries were inspired by the fabrics in Siriano's dreamy designs. Spritz the eau de toilette, and you'll be greeted with feminine jasmine petals, rose, and freesia, juxtaposed by more masculine woods and moss. The scent was infused in the air at Siriano's fabulous launch party last night at his pop-up shop, The Silhouette Shoppe (402 West 13th St. in NYC, open Sept. 4 through 21), where the fragrance will be sold in addition to online at christiansirianofragrances.com. The Silhouette range includes a 100 ml Eau de Parfum Spray ($92), a 50 ml Eau de Parfum Spray ($68), a 200 ml Body Lotion ($40), a 200 ml Shower Gel ($35), a 6 ml Rollerball ($22), and a limited edition Eau de Parfum Candle ($45).

At this chichi event, we rubbed elbows with Marisa Tomei, Alexa Chung, and Mena Suvari before we caught up with the man of the hour himself as well as his muse, Coco Rocha (who stars in the Silhouette campaign). Read on for exclusive quotes from Siriano and Rocha about what just may be the most fashionable fragrance of them all. Source: Courtesy of Christian Siriano; Front Page

"We wanted the fragrance to be a little sweet, a little spicy, but still very feminine, like my clothes," said Siriano. "I wanted the bottle to have that essence of a twisted, pleated gown. And I love the unveiling when the entire cap comes off and you really get a moment with it." Courtesy of Christian Siriano

"I also wanted [the fragrance] to be for a lot of different types of women — young and old," expressed Siriano. "Silhouette really celebrates women — all shapes, all sizes — and celebrates the silhouette. I want it to — hopefully — be in my genre for the next 50 years." Courtesy of Christian Siriano

How long has Siriano rocked his signature side bangs? "I mean, it changes a little bit every year, but I think it will last somewhat forever, hopefully," he said of his haircut.

"I love anything that’s a bit more masculine but still hits the feminine notes, and that’s what [Christian has] done," Rocha said of Silhouette. "It's what women want to smell like."

"If [Christian] gets me my bottle tonight, yes, I will be wearing it all week," said Rocha of Silhouette. "I don't have a bottle yet because when we shot it, it was still being made." Courtesy of Christian Siriano

When we caught up with the model, she had returned from a trip to Turkey, so we asked about her best beauty travel tips. She said, "It's always important to take off makeup. I know that women want look cute on the plane, but take off that makeup, and drink a ton of water. Everything that your mom and your grandma told you to do is exactly what should be done. I was the worst about that stuff until, recently, I realized if I want to still have this skin, I have to do those things." Courtesy of Christian Siriano

She also had some advice for the models going through Fashion Week: "That’s the thing; it is a bit of insanity. Sometimes it’s crazy, and that can be a lot of fun. Just have fun with it. If you were denied, if you were told no for a show, that’s OK. You're not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and you don’t want to be. That’s very boring, that’s not fashion. For the girls up there who are lacking confidence, [I say] just go out there and have fun!" Courtesy of Christian Siriano
