Channel Your Inner Artist With This Edgy, Bold Makeup Palette

I often think of putting on makeup as face painting, and that takes an even more literal meaning when it comes to Make's Post Impression Palette ($40). Not only does this set of six bold eye shadows and two lipstick creams come in a case that looks like a painter's tool, but the colors were also inspired by the work of photographer/filmmaker Erik Madigan Heck — specifically abstract landscape photos of New York's Hudson River Valley taken with Polaroid 59 film. New York-based makeup artist Sam Addington brought hues from the images to life via a full collection of eye shadows, lipsticks, and eyeliners, dubbed the Post Impression line, but this sleek, multifunctional palette is my favorite pick.

The silky eye shadows are the perfect colors to give me a statement after-hours look (think Lady Gaga's ARTPOP cover, but wearable). And I love the bright red or deep purple lip with a simple winged eyeliner à la Alexa Chung. Happy painting!
