I've never been picky about body-wash brands — if it was sold at my local Target, I'd use it. My only requirement was it had to smell good (and if the bottle was cute, that was a plus). I never cared to venture out and buy pricey body washes, and I always found my skin was fine with drugstore labels. However, when I moved into my latest apartment, I discovered the comfort in shopping online, and as you might imagine, that changed things. While I used to walk inside my local store and randomly choose whatever was on its shelves, I now had a plethora of options to choose from purely based on description and brand. I took interest in ingredients, smell, and what the body wash aimed to do. Was it hydrating? Exfoliating? Soothing? After going through quite a few body washes, I stumbled upon Blueland's Body Wash Starter Set ($16), and I'm so happy I did.

What I Like About Blueland's Body Wash

If I'm being honest with myself (and those reading this), I don't like shopping for necessities. Grocery shopping isn't my thing, buying shampoo and conditioner puts a hole in my wallet, and body wash falls in line with all that: it's a hassle. What I like about the starter set with Blueland is that it comes with a refillable bottle and three body-wash packages, and as someone who showers daily, I can confidently say its packages take a while to run through. One packet alone lasts me a few months, and if you do the math, you have a six-month supply for $16 — not too shabby. This allows me to both order less body wash and save money. (Its refills are even cheaper without the body-wash bottle involved.) Additionally, this body wash is made with plant-based ingredients and contributes less waste to the environment than other body washes thanks to its refillable packaging. The starter kit comes with three body washes — waterlily dew, raspberry hibiscus, and sandalwood sage — and they all smell delicious.

What's Worth Noting About Blueland's Body Wash

With a refillable body wash, it's important to note that you have to mix its refills with water, shake it, and let it stand for an hour before it's ready to be used. When I first bought it, I was unaware of the mixing process and was frustrated I had to wait an hour for the mixture to activate. I now have the hang of it, and I don't mind the mixing process whatsoever, but it is a minor inconvenience if you buy it without knowing.

Who Is Blueland's Body Wash Best For?

If you're in the market for a clean body wash that's good for the environment, this body wash is for you. Its powder refill's compostable paper sachets eliminate the need for plastic packaging and, as a result, prevent waste. One refillable package creates 18 ounces of body wash, which is right in line with most brands. It's dermatologist tested and free of parabens, VOCs, phthalates, ammonia, and triclosan, which have all been linked to cell damage, reproductive issues, and irritation to the skin.

Additional Details:

  • The body-wash set comes with three body-wash refills and a "forever bottle."
  • One refill creates 18 ounces of body wash, which is standard.
  • The body wash is made of plant-based ingredients.
  • The wash contains oat and vitamin E to moisturize the skin.
  • Mix its wash with water to activate the body wash.
