We all know and love the clinical formulations and science-backed products from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare. What you might not know is that behind the results-driven brand is a veteran dermatologist with over 25 years of experience in the skin-care field. As a detail-oriented person, Dr. Gross knew he had a knack for a visual specialty like dermatology. "I love to see the visible transformation and see how a person improves before your very eyes, to me just makes it very real," he tells POPSUGAR.

Dr. Gross noticed a gap in the market for professional-grade skin-care products that people can turn to for at-home solutions. "People want to see their complexion, clear up, they want to see the hyperpigmentation improve, they have hope, and you have to really be in a position to make a radical difference," he says. With his background researching skin cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital in NYC and his experience as a clinical dermatologist, he developed his skin-care line 25 years ago. It started with the now-bestselling Alpha Beta Peel, which was an at-home version of a chemical peel he offered at his practice — and quickly grew from there.

Besides running a successful dermatology practice in New York City and a skin-care brand offered at every major retailer — from Sephora to Dermstore — Dr. Gross is a huge baseball fan, an avid drummer, family man, and dog-lover. Not only does he have two rescues of his own, but he is also on the board of a few animal rescue organizations. At his core, he's passionate about learning and gaining knowledge to fuel his creativity, spending his time reading everything from the latest advancements in medicine to Eastern practices of Ayurveda and history. "To be creative in science is what I am all about, that's how I create products," he says.

Dr. Gross let us in on a few of his must-have products with POPSUGAR below. From a supportive running shoe to a french roast coffee, these are Dr. Gross's current favorite picks.

Dr. Dennis Gross's Affordable Must Have

For Dr. Gross, the Cetaphil Body Moisturizer ($16) is an "impressive product," especially for his dry skin (although it works for all skin types, including those who lean sensitive because it's fragrance-free and non-comedogenic).

"Sweet almond oil compared to other oils is a really good choice, so that product has it in there, and vitamin B3, niacinamide, I love that ingredient, it's brilliant," he says. "If I'm gonna recommend an oil, I'm a big believer in sweet almond oil. When it comes to oils, you don't want it to be too heavy because that can block pores and oil glands." Cetaphil's Body Moisturizer contains vitamin E, glycerin, and vitamin B5 as well, which all help to reduce inflammation and irritation on the skin while delivering deep hydration and helping restore the skin's moisture barrier.

Pro Tip: Dr. Gross loves to use this moisturizer daily but also recommends using it after using the Alpha Beta Exfoliating Body Treatment ($60), which helps "get rid of KP and hyperpigmentation, and it helps firm the skin; you exfoliate with your body peel, and then you put on that product," he says.

Dr. Dennis Gross's Investment Must Have

Dr. Gross is a firm believer in investing in products that deliver results, and one of his favorites from his line is the DermInfusions Fill + Repair Serum ($75) that he says "is literally an injectable alternative" that implements a new and innovative delivery system. "We made the water droplets smaller, and now those molecules of water that carry ingredients do it in ways that are much more powerful by getting it into the skin cells, getting absorbed into the skin cells better than before." The serum contains four types of hyaluronic acid, four peptide proteins, niacinamide, and ectoin that all penetrate deeper into the skin due to this new deliverance system.

According to Dr. Gross, this lightweight gel-serum "gives skin an incredible plumping effect and helps fine lines and wrinkles look better right away." It helps to restore your skin's moisture barrier as well for a rejuvenated appearance.

Pro Tip: Dr. Gross advises to use this serum earlier in your skin-care routine to get that skin-plumping effect and then follow it up with other serums, moisturizers, and sunscreen. You can also use the serum under makeup. "Makeup primers have ingredients that make yours make the makeup work better. DermInfusions is something that makes your skin look better with makeup on," he says.

Dr. Dennis Gross's Morning Routine Must Have

Dr. Gross starts his mornings with a good cup of joe. "I like and need my coffee. It's really my special time in the morning," he says. His go-to is the San Francisco Bay Coffee ($22) in French Roast; "I don't get sick of it," he says. This coffee is a full-bodied dark roast made with beans grown in Central and South America. It has a bold, full-bodied flavor and smoky finish. "I fresh grind my coffee myself, blended coarse — that's key — and use a filter drip." He puts a teaspoon of regular sugar and strongly advises against any artificial sweeteners, noting that they aren't good for your body.

Pro Tip: If you tend to get hyperacidity from coffee, Dr. Gross recommends not grinding it so fine but rather keep it at a medium coarseness. To him, it tastes better as well.

Dr. Dennis Gross's Sleep Must Have

Dr. Gross has seen plenty of patients show signs of aging on the side of their face that they sleep on, a phenomenon he talks about in his book, "Your Future Face." He explains that "putting constant pressure on the skin does break down collagen. I also think that when the skin scrunches and bunches up, you get folds in your skin, and when you sleep like that for hours, that is wear and tear, and the collagen fibers will start to break down." The Slip Pure Silk Pillowcase ($89) helps reduce the friction between the fabric and your skin, "so you skin slides instead of bunching up, and you're not going to get those those fine lines prematurely."

Dr. Gross breaks down the science of why this is a must have for beauty sleep; however, he also just loves how it feels on his skin. "I like the feeling, the comfortable coolness it provides. I don't know what it is but it just helps me drift off. I find it soothing," he says.

Pro Tip: Silk pillowcases need to be cared for properly. It's best to gently hand wash or machine wash them on a delicate setting with cool water and a pH neutral detergent and let it air dry.

Dr. Dennis Gross's Must-Have Pair of Sneakers

"How the body walks is one of the most beautiful things," Dr. Gross says. "The way that everything that goes into walking, from keeping your body straight, moving your legs and moving your hips . . . and the On Cloud 5 Running Shoe ($140), I just think are a really good piece of equipment to attach to the foot to really facilitate the natural movement of walking." The soles of these sneakers have circular-shape rubber with hollow centers that provide a natural compression.

"I walk a lot, and I just like the way my foot hits the ground. I like there to be like a grip to the ground," he says, adding how he appreciates how these sneakers maintain a point of contact that naturally rotates and goes beautifully with the foot. If you like to have extra cushioning, these sneakers also have removable, cushioned insoles.

Pro Tip: These sneakers can run small, so the brand advises to order a half size up if needed.
