This Handheld Facial Mister Is My New Favorite Beauty Tool

So when I get word of a new beauty tool hitting the market, I instantly perk up. That's what led me to try the new Jenny Patinkin Mister Assister Nano-Mist Deep Skin Hydration Tool ($65).

Called the Mister Assister for short — and created by Jenny Patinkin, a makeup artist and beauty expert — this small, handheld device uses ultrasonic vibration technology to break down water into nanoparticles that penetrate the skin for deep hydration. As someone with a dry to normal skin type, I'm always looking for products that'll provide me with lots of moisture.

I'm a sucker for a good skin-care device, but even I can't commit to using an onslaught of devices every single day (who has the time for that?). I like devices that are quick and easy to work into my daily regimen, making it feel like a little treat; not a full spa ritual. That's where the Mister Assister really shines. The device holds a charge for six hours so it's almost always ready for use and a "treatment" only takes about 30 seconds. I can easily grab it after washing my face and before applying my serums for a quick dose of hydration.

I have normal to dry skin but I live and die by retinol, so hydration is a key priority of mine. Though the immediate effects of the Mister Assister are subtle, my skin does feel a bit more moisturized after using it. After layering on my serums and moisturizer, my skin feels really good — a bit more supple and comfortable.

You can use the Jenny Patinkin Mister Assister Nano-Mist Deep Skin Hydration Tool on bare skin or over skin care and makeup. I typically reach for it in the morning or at the end of the day, after washing my face but before doing the rest of my skin-care routine.

The first step in using it is to fill the (rather small) water tank with distilled water. At first, I thought, Oh no, how am I going to get the water in this tiny hole? — then I realized there was a tiny squeeze bottle in the box along with the device, which made the process super easy.

Once it's filled with water, the device is very simple to turn on: you simply slide the front panel down and the mist activates; there are no buttons. The mist immediately dispenses while you move the device slowly over your face. It's very subtle; you can feel it, but it's not like you're under one of those facial steamers that they have at the spa or during facials. What's also nice it automatically stops after a certain amount of time, indicating that the treatment is done.

The Jenny Patinkin Mister Assister Nano-Mist Deep Skin Hydration Tool provides you with deep hydration not just on the surface of the skin, but deep in the epidermis. You'll feel a slight cooling sensation as the mist comes into contact with your face and then a little bit of tackiness as it dries down. It's subtle and almost undetectable — it doesn't make your skin feel wet or super dewy. If you're looking for something that's going to instantly saturate your face with moisture, this won't provide that.

It's also not to be confused with a facial steamer, which dispenses hot steam on your face.

Though $65 is pretty affordable for a skin-care device, it's certainly nothing to scoff at. If you're looking for an at-home gadget that will help infuse your skin with hydration and take your daily regimen to the next level, it's worth the buy. The price is considerably better than many other facial misters on the market, which can run up to $300.
