You don't have to be a professional hairstylist to know Kate Middleton is known for her signature bouncy blowouts. It doesn't matter if she's just dropping off the kids for school, running around for a day full of sports, or attending a fancy evening occasion, you can bet the Duchess of Cambridge will have her voluminous waves on full display.

However, it seems that in lockdown she's turned to a more low-key and relaxed style, which is still ultra-polished. In addition to conducting her royal duties from home and, like many parents, homeschooling her children, she's even taken on the role of hairdresser, too.

On Feb. 10, Kensington Palace shared a special virtual engagement on the official Instagram account where the duke and duchess spoke with a first-year adult nursing student at Ulster University in the U.K. named Abigail about a video diary she posted on TikTok. "Abigail told The Duke and Duchess about some of the challenges she had faced, including the emotional impact of patients being unable to receive visits from their families," the caption said.

Middleton is no stranger to trying out different hairstyles. She's a fan of half-updos, braided chignons, and polished ponytails, but we very rarely see her with straight hair, and this is definitely the sleekest and straightest style she's worn yet. The best part? Unlike some of her more intricate hairstyles, this one is super easy to re-create at home. We recommend applying a high-shine serum and heat protector (we like the L'Oréal Paris Elvive Dream Lengths Heat Slayer Protection ($6)) on damp hair and using a hot brush, like the GHD Glide ($169), to gently dry your hair in a downward motion to achieve a smooth and straight finish that's full of volume at your roots.
