This Beauty Brand Is Making All of Its Packaging Using Ocean Plastic Waste

When you examine your beauty products, you'll notice that the majority of them are housed in plastic containers. Unfortunately, many of these containers end up in the ocean after we toss them into the trash. That's why haircare brand Kevin Murphy has decided to help take on the 18 billion pounds of plastic waste that ends up in our oceans each year with its new packaging.

The brand announced in September 2018 that it would start rolling out packaging made 100 percent from ocean waste plastic, starting in mid-2019. That means that you're going to see the new containers in your salons soon and that the pumps, bottles, caps, and more are all made from plastic pollution that was found in the ocean. The company projects that this new practice will save 360 tons of plastic each year and create a circular supply chain of plastic. Today, less than one-fifth of plastic is recycled globally.

Because reducing plastic waste is so important, it's vital that other beauty brands follow suit and create sustainable business practices to protect the environment from further pollution. You can see Kevin Murphy's new packaging ahead.
