If you were to poll a group of people on the one product they would never leave the house without, most of them would say mascara, myself included. One quick swipe can instantly make you look, and therefore feel, more awake and put together. I'm constantly going through mascaras for this very reason, but the new formula from MAC Cosmetics is one I'm trying to make last for as long as possible.

The brand's Magic Extension 5mm Fibre Mascara ($25) just launched and already has a reputation for providing extreme length to your lashes. The "5mm" in the name references the five-millimeter-long fibers in the formula that help give your lashes that just-left-my-lash-extension-appointment look. When you first pull the wand out of the tube, you can actually see those fibers clinging onto the tip of the brush.

In addition to those lengthening fibers, the mascara contains a crystal elixir powder, which helps intensify the carbon-black color of the pigment, as well as olive oil derivative and natural waxes to condition your natural lashes. The brush is shaped like a cone with a slightly tapered end and helps grab each individual lash — even ones in those hard-to-reach corners — to coat them in pigment and curl them upward. What I also love about the brush is how the soft, intertwined bristles comb the formula evenly through your lashes so there aren't any clumps.

I put the mascara on one eye first to see just how well it volumized and lengthened my eyelashes and could see a visible difference in just a single coat. A few more passes with the wand, and I had lashes that looked like a strip of falsies. As someone with naturally straight eyelashes, I'm always looking for a formula that delivers in every category: volume, length, definition, and curl. I'm happy to report that this mascara checks all of those boxes.

The formula isn't waterproof, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're going swimming or to the beach this summer, but that's not to say it doesn't stay put. After wearing it for seven hours on a 91-degree day, it didn't even smudge a little. That's major. I'm already dreading the day that I run out of this tube.
