My struggle with my lashes has been well-documented. They're naturally dark, but they're also short and stubby. If you're staring at me head-on and I'm not wearing mascara, chances are you're probably wondering whether or not I even have them to begin with. I've found a few great mascaras that help, but only after an assist from my eyelash curler. It wasn't until I started using an eyelash serum that I noticed a huge difference in the way they looked and felt.

Before discovering RapidLash, I'd tested a few different lash serums over the years, but I'd never had great results. There were a few that made my eyes itchy and red after just one use, and then there were a couple that didn't even make a dent when it came to length or thickness. When I learned about Sydney Sweeney's favorite eyelash serum, the RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum ($50), my hopes weren't high that it would work, but because it was one of the only brands I hadn't tested yet, I figured I would give it a shot. Spoiler alert: I'm glad I did.

What I Like About the RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum

The brand says that you'll be able to see a difference in just eight weeks, and in my experience, that claim is true. I started using it every night before bed as soon as I got it, and I was shocked (but mostly excited) when I realized it didn't irritate my eyes whatsoever. It didn't leave them feeling sticky or dry after application, and I didn't wake up with crust around my lids in the morning, either.

I started noticing a difference in the length right around the eight-week mark, but I've now been using the serum for almost four months and my eyelashes look better than ever. They aren't thicker, but they're so long that all I need to do in the morning is curl them and coat them with a tiny bit of Aquaphor, and it looks like I'm fully wearing mascara.

They've gotten so long over the last four months that I started using the serum every other day just to maintain the length because if they got any longer I'd probably need to start trimming them (not that I'd recommend that).

How to Use the RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum

The brand recommends applying the formula to the base of the upper eyelashes using the applicator brush once daily before bedtime. It should be applied to clean, dry skin. It says you should begin application at the inner corner of the eye and move outward. It also notes you should void direct contact with the eye.

I apply this product after I've washed and dried my face before heading to sleep. When doing my skin care, I make sure to avoid the eye area. Then, I apply the serum at the base of my upper lashes, starting in the middle of the eye and working my way outward; I don't go all the way into the inner corner because I find that if I have too much length there, it can irritate my eye.

For the first two months, I used this product every day, but since then, I've been using it every other day just to maintain my current length.

What to Consider Before Trying the RapidLash Eyelash Enhancing Serum

One thing to note before testing any lash serum is that there are potential side effects to be aware of, depending on the ingredients. This product specifically contains isopropyl cloprostenate, a synthetic compound also known as a prostaglandin analog, which is not FDA-approved. Side effects can include irritation, inflammation, eye redness, and darkening of the skin around the eyelids. "Darkening of the iris has also been reported, which is not a reversible side effect," Rebecca Taylor, MD, ophthalmologist and clinical spokesperson for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, previously told PS.

Although I have not experienced any side effects when using this product, if you do experience any issues, it's recommended you stop use immediately.
