When I first moved from San Francisco to Los Angeles late last year, I had visions of spending my summer living a "Blue Crush" lifestyle. I didn't think I would be "surfing the gnar" quite like Kate Bosworth, but I did plan on spending countless hours at the beach, soaking up the sun, working on my tan, and swimming in the ocean. The one thing I didn't plan for? How all that time spent outside and in the salt water would exacerbate my (already dry) hair and skin.

Yes, I may have met a bunch of cute surfer boys, but the beauty consequences of my summer outings weren't exactly pretty. My hair was damaged and frizzy, and my skin looked as dehydrated as it felt. While I started using body oils paired with heavy lotions to soothe my dry, cracked skin, when it came to my hair, typical masks and conditioners weren't working. It wasn't until I was introduced to the Rôz Willow Glen Treatment Oil ($48) that my hair finally came back to life.

What I Like About the Rôz Willow Glen Treatment Oil

First and foremost, this product has become my hair's savior at the beach. As I mentioned, I love swimming in the ocean, but I've found that the salt water dries it out and leaves it looking frizzier than ever before. At the suggestion of my colorist, I started using this treatment before hopping in the water, and it's made all the difference. My hair soaks up the oil and acts like a barrier against the salt water, and when I get out of the ocean, it feels softer than it was before I got in.

I also love using it whenever I notice that my hair looks limp, dry, and fried from too much heat styling. I've found that if I put it in my hair for a few minutes prior to showering, it leaves everything looking silky and smooth once I'm done.

Another perk? It smells amazing, and the scent is long-lasting — I can't count the number of times people have asked me what fragrance I'm wearing because my hair smells so good.

How to Use the Rôz Willow Glen Treatment Oil

The brand recommends applying the oil to dry hair as a pre-wash. Start by gently working the product into the ends of the hair, working your way up toward the root. They suggest leaving it in for at least 10 minutes or wearing it overnight. It can also be used directly on the scalp as well as the body on any areas that feel particularly dry.

I like to use this treatment oil whenever my hair feels like it could use a little extra TLC, which has been pretty often lately. I'm a big fan of multitasking, so whenever I use it at home, I saturate my hair with this oil, throw it up in a bun, then hop in the shower. I like to let it sit and marinate while I shave my legs and exfoliate. When my 10 minutes (or more, depending on how long my shower is) are up, I always follow up by shampooing twice and then conditioning. If I'm heading to the beach for the day, I throw it in my beach bag and apply it right before I head into the water.

One thing to note: I don't typically work this product all the way up to the roots of my hair because I find that area can get quite greasy. Instead, I focus on the mid-lengths to ends, unless I'm noticing that my scalp feels super dry. In that case, I actually find that rubbing just a drop or two of this oil directly onto the area helps alleviate the issue.

What to Consider Before Trying the Rôz Willow Glen Treatment Oil

If you're looking for a lightweight hair oil, this isn't that. This is a treatment that I use on specific occasions to treat or prevent damage — not something I typically use every day. Although I have fine hair and I've found that this product doesn't weigh it down, if you have very fine or thin hair and have had trouble finding hair oils that aren't too heavy, I'd suggest a more lightweight product like the Rôz Santa Lucia Styling Oil ($45) or the Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil ($25).
