Jack Harlow, Nicki Minaj, and LL Cool J Will Emcee the 2022 MTV VMAs

Did we just get a fresh slate of MTV VJs? Kinda! With the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards just over a week away, the network has finally announced who will take on hosting duties for this year's New Jersey-based ceremony — with a twist. The night's big honoree, Nicki Minaj, as well as LL Cool J and Jack Harlow, will emcee the show, MTV announced on Aug. 18. Rather than having a traditional host — like 2021's headliner, Doja Cat — Minaj, LL Cool J, and Harlow will pop in and out to announce performers, presenters, winners, and other VMAs segments, according to MTV.

All three emcees are VMAs vets — even newer-to-the-scene Harlow. He'll perform solo this year, and he's nominated seven times, including in the video of the year and artist of the year categories. Minaj's return to the VMAs stage will be her first time since 2018. In addition to her cohosting duties and performance (which hopefully includes her new single, "Super Freaky Girl"), the 17-time nominated and five-time VMAs winner will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Like Minaj, LL Cool J is also a recipient of the Video Vanguard Award — he snagged the honor back in 1997 and was the first rapper to do so. LL Cool J seems excited about his role in the big ceremony, posting the news on his Instagram and writing, "Hip-Hop is on top ✊🏾 I'm MCing the 2022 #VMAs."

The MTV VMAs will take place at the Prudential Center on Aug. 28. Lil Nas X, Kendrick Lamar, and Harlow are leading the nominations with a total of seven each, while Harry Styles and Doja Cat are trailing right behind with six apiece. Announced performers include Maneskin, Anitta, and J Balvin.
