Chris Hemsworth Stopped Eating Meat Before Kissing Natalie Portman in "Thor: Love and Thunder"

Chris Hemsworth's Thor bulk-up regimen includes a protein-packed diet that has been serving his muscles — and our eyeballs — well for the last 11 years. While preparing for his role as the Space Viking usually involves eating copious amounts of meat between filming, Hemsworth made a sweet exception in honor of Natalie Portman while filming "Thor: Love and Thunder," Marvel's latest film.

"The day we had a kiss scene, he didn't eat meat that morning because I'm vegan."

During the movie, Thor and Portman's character, Jane Foster, share a kiss that reignites their long-forgotten romance. While some fans swooned and others wished Jane had ended up with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), what most don't know is that, out of respect for Portman's vegan diet, Hemsworth kindly skipped eating meat for breakfast on the day they filmed their kissing scene.

Even though Portman, who has been vegetarian since she was 9 and vegan since 2011, didn't ask Hemsworth to hold off on his usual breakfast, the Marvel star says she was touched by her costar's thoughtfulness. "He's really nice," Portman told "Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp" during an interview alongside Thompson on July 6. "The day we had a kiss scene, he didn't eat meat that morning because I'm vegan. And he eats meat like every half hour. Like, that was so thoughtful. That's not something I'm angry about or care about, but he was just being thoughtful. He's just a very nice person."

Shocked by the heartfelt, behind-the-scenes detail, Thompson added, "I didn't even know he could go without eating meat. He's [usually] just, like, eating bison in the morning . . . That's so sweet."

While filming, Hemsworth also welcomed his kids on set so he could spend time with them in between shoots, something he's been doing since his early days as the intergalactic superhero. Sure, Marvel always gets us with those end-credit scenes, but it's behind-the-scenes moments like this and Hemsworth's sweet gesture toward Portman that make us love the God of Thunder — and the rest of the Avengers — even more.
