Christie Brinkley Calls DWTS Injury "a Crushing Disappointment" Following Season 28 Exit

Following a major injury, Christie Brinkley will no longer be part of Dancing With the Stars season 28. Just days before the season premiere on Sept. 16, the 65-year-old supermodel suffered a serious fall after tripping over her partner's foot during rehearsals. The injury will require surgery on her arm and wrist and force Brinkley to sit out the competition. Instead, the supermodel's 21-year-old daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook will be taking her place this season.

On Monday, Brinkley took to Instagram to detail her unfortunate accident as well as send well-wishes to her daughter. "Sailor Breezes [in] to [sic] Save the Day!" she captioned a photo of her daughter wearing her DWTS costume. "I just broke my arm into a 1000 pieces [sic] requiring surgery with a metal plate and screws to hold my arm together . . . Im [sic] so sorry! Only something like that cold [sic] stop me from continuing to dance with my wonderful coach . . . I was having a blast! It was quite literally a crushing disappointment, I never ever want to let anyone down, so I looked for a silver lining and I think this one is solid gold!"

After apologizing for typos due to her broken arm (aww!), Brinkley went on to cheer on her daughter. "Sailor Thank you for taking a very disappointing turn of events into something very special!" she continued. "You know Showbiz is all about getting a break and I guess you can say Sailor and I both got one on this season of @dancingabc"

While it's certainly a bittersweet moment for Brinkley, we can't wait to see her daughter step into her dance shoes this season.
