Do you ever get that . . . not-so-fresh feeling? Yeah, neither do I, but that doesn't stop me from immaturely snickering at the flowery, euphemistic names of tampons, pads, and other that-time-of-the-month products. See if you can guess which ones belong to "feminine-hygiene" items, and which you'd find at your local beauty boutique.
When it comes to women's perfume, orientals are one of the more intense, longer lasting fragrance groups. Warm, sensual, exotic, and spicy, orientals are composed of rich notes such as musk, vanilla, balsam, and oakmoss. Floral types (aka, florientals) are naturally softer, while spicier versions can include nutmeg, cinnamon, and/or clove. This type of fragrance doesn't mess around.
A great example of an oriental fragrance is the classic Opium by Yves Saint Laurent ($50 to $95), which has notes of tangerine, plum, cloves, coriander, carnation, lily of the valley, rose, myrrh, cedarwood, and sandalwood. Also try, Guerlain L'Heure Bleue ($68), with notes of rose, iris, jasmine, vanilla, and musk.

In case you haven't quite mastered the art of eyebrow shaping, there's another solution. You've probably been coloring inside the lines now since you were about five, and celebrity eyebrow guru Anastasia makes it easy to achieve eyebrow perfection with her fool-proof reusable Stencils ($20). Using a brow pencil or brow powder with brush, fill in as needed and let the stencils guide you as you go. It’s as easy as that! The packet includes four shapes: High Arch, Petite Arch, Medium Arch, and Slim High Arch for a customized fit.
For a more affordable version, try Ardell Brow Perfection Stencils ($3.19), which come in four varieties as well: Delicate, Elegant, Glamorous, and Classic. Well-cared for eyebrows really do make an impact on framing your eyes to create a completely refined look. Oh, how I wish I had had these templates during those overly zealous tweezing days.
Man, I'm in the wrong line of business. The McCain campaign paid Sarah Palin's makeup artist $22,800 for the first two weeks of October. According to campaign records, Emmy-winning makeup artist Amy Strozzi was the highest-paid individual in the campaign during that fortnight. (Palin's hairstylist earned $10,000 — no word yet on how much Michelle Obama's hairstylist earns.)
Now, I know makeup artists can demand high salaries — but coupled with Palin's $150,000 wardrobe, that's a lot of cash spent to look so good. (And, no matter what your political stance, you have to admit, Palin does look polished.) Do you think the makeup artist's fees are fair, or is the campaign overpaying her?
Halloween How-To: The Fairy Princess While Minnie Driver decided to take her glitter makeup patterns to the extreme in her fairy princess costume, you can tone down her look from Heidi and Seal's Halloween bash and highlight just one area of your face with glitter.
OK, so we can't all be a fabulous supermodel with a cute family and fat paycheck. But at least we can steal tidbits of Heidi Klum's style. She's just released her second signature makeup collection with Victoria's Secret, and it's more or less a seasonless, classic look. Her first makeup collection also had neutrals, but this time she's adding a touch of green.
Heidi designed the five-piece collection ($10–$22) with makeup artist Linda Hay, and the lipstick/lip gloss combo makes for one of those great, versatile color combinations. Combined with
Heidi's beauty secrets, you'll be well on your way to living like a supermodel — at least when it comes to filling your makeup bag.
Kate Beckinsale was spotted leaving the hair salon in LA looking perfectly coiffed from head to toe. She wore a shirtdress over leggings, pairing it with Fiorentini + Baker buckle boots and a cozy scarf for a Fall-appropriate look.
