Did you watch the season finale of Shear Genius last night? The last assignment was for each stylist to create a story of a woman's life from the ages of 18, 30, 45, and 60 — all through her hair. Pretty cool concept, right?
Dee's models were all redheads, and her story focused around a woman who started out with dreams of being a singer — who eventually succeeded, of course. Charlie kept it in the creative element as well, depicting the life of a blond child actress, from beautiful ingenue to famed director. Nicole's story kept it real. Her brunette models were based on the fairly normal life of her mother.
Whether you watched the show or are just judging by these models' hairstyles, who do you think deserved to win last night?
I've sure you've seen L'Oreal's HiP (High Intensity Pigment) collection. It's hard to miss thanks to its more modern packaging and a brighter color selection than the brand's regular line. I decided to try the darkest shade of its Jelly Balm, Luscious ($9), which reminds me of Benefit Benetint Lip Balm with a touch less purple.
Jelly Balm is surprisingly unsticky, unscented, and not heavily pigmented (as in, so long as you know where your lips are, you can apply it without a mirror). Luscious is a universally flattering cranberry that looks and feels light on your lips, not waxy or plastic-y. Of course, it doesn't contain any vitamins or SPF protection, so maybe it just feels healthy. But I guess it's the rare lip balm that's going to make a major impact on your life expectancy?
Anyway, I can't imagine the other colors looking very different, but at $9 a pop, at least I can afford more than one. While it's not what you'd expect from the way the color looks in the tub, Jelly Balm in Luscious was a nice surprise. A surprise I'll definitely reapply.
The seventh Diet and Beauty Fair wrapped up in Tokyo yesterday, and its offerings go far beyond lip gloss and face masks. The trade show featured unusual, up-and-coming, and just plain bizarre beauty treatments. Have a look at some of the strangest.

I believe in suffering for beauty, but only to an extent. You've all probably heard about the out-there ingredients used in the name of looking good. Some of them are (or were) dangerous, if not deadly. Others give me the heebie jeebies just thinking about them. And then there are the ones that are just plain indecent. So, let's test your knowledge regarding the ick factors of beauty. Take my quiz below; the results may shock (and disgust) you.

Rachel Zoe was photographed walking down Robertson, Starbucks in hand, looking ready for some serious shopping. She looked chic in her round sunglasses and Chanel bag, which she wore with of-the-moment thigh-high boots, a denim Current/Elliott biker jacket, and printed scarf.
