In the last few days, Jessica Szohr (that's Vanessa to you Gossip Girl fans) has been wearing her long black hair twisted in dreadlock-esque formations. (It doesn't seem like she's had long enough to actually perfect dreadlocks, which take months to cultivate). What do you think: sexy earth girl or just messy?
Some were just too ill equipped for the job — like the one that was too small. Others were just dull and made an unnecessary mess. Then, there was the poor one that suffered "accidental death by stiletto" during one particular mad morning gotta get to work rush. The latest victim pulled a Houdini, and I'm still trying to figure that one out.
I'm referring to pencil sharpeners, of course. (Wasn't it obvious?) As I sit here contemplating the many cosmetic pencil sharpeners that have come and gone in my days, from one apartment move to the next, and one vanity set to another, I think I have found a new love.
When it comes to sharpeners, Revlon's Universal Points Sharpener ($3.49) is right on — it fits all the pencils, both chunky and skinny. It produces a precise cut, which after all is the whole, uh, point. Shavings and gunky pencil contents? Not a problem, as it comes with a detachable cover for easy clean up. If only it could withstand the crush of a high-heeled woman — now that would be a sharp improvement.
Season Four of The Hills rolled out last night, setting the stage for drama ahead. Will Heidi and Spencer make it work? Will Lo and Audrina find some common ground? How about Heidi and Lauren — is their friendship doomed to fail? I can already feel the tension looming.
How close were you watching these lovely ladies' hair, makeup, and nail choices last night? Take my beauty quiz to test your memory, and check back next week for another set of questions.
Sick of paying big bucks to replace your favorite lotions and gels? There's a way to hold off a little longer. You might think you're already getting most of the good stuff out of the container, but there's often much more hiding within. (Case in point: Urban Decay Primer Potion.)
Fortunately, PartySugar shared how she squeezes a few extra uses out of her favorite hair gel when it's running low. It's really easy to do, and you'll get your money's worth. To see how it's done, just grab a plastic tube of your favorite product, then read more
Celebrity endorsements are big overseas — just ask Angelina, Anne, Jennifer, or any of the other famous people who've appeared in beauty ads in Japan and Korea. For a day or two of work, these stars can earn more than $2 million by endorsing lipstick, mascara, or shampoo. Read on to see who's raking in the bucks (and who's hoping you won't have to see her practice her swordsmanship).
Eyebrow-Raising Political Analysis — Do the Looks Have It? It's official — every aspect of the campaign has been scrutinized. With breathless attention to Obama shirtless and Kaine's eyebrows questioned, are male candidates finally getting the attention to looks that Hillary faced all campaign? Do a candidate's looks matter?
Something about the name "royal jelly" has always turned me off a little, but further investigation into what it actually is rendered me fascinated. Royal Jelly is produced by honey bees to feed larvae intended to become worker bees. But get this: when a queen bee is needed, a "chosen" larva is fed nothing but mass quanities of royal jelly, which makes it turn into a queen and grow ovaries. For humans, the milky substance is packed with B-complex vitamins and is used as a dietary supplement and to treat certain diseases. With a backstory like this, think of what it does for your face!
Japanese company DHC has a Royal Jelly Extract which is meant to stimulate and needs to be refrigerated. Burt's Bees makes a Radiance Eye Cream with Royal Jelly. The Savannah Bee Company makes a (currently sold-out) Royal Jelly Body Butter. If you're as curious as I am about the ingredient's beauty benefits you might want to stock up now: agriculturalists have been warning about a honey bee shortage for a couple years now. Burt's Bees and Häagen-Dazs, for their parts, have pledged money to help save the bees. Presumably to generate some positive buzz. (Sorry.)
Singer and actress Selena Gomez posed for pictures at the 2009 American Music Awards with a pretty pink smile on her face. She took advantage of the occasion and went glam; wearing a Talbot Runhof sequin dress with black strappy heels.
